I just got my tige cover for my 08 22e. Should i use the support poles while towing or not? Another stupid question - it came with a small cover that looks like it covers the swim platform. is that what it's for and i'm assuming i can't tow with it on?

It says on my cover not to tow with the support pole up, however I have for 250 miles because it was raining and I didn't want to pull the cover to take it down. I had no problems and am not sure why they say to take it down. I see boats all the time with the support poles up going down the road.

I have towed with cover and support pole. Typically due to the fact that it was raining when I left. Just made sure the cover was on real tight so keep anything from flapping.
So that brings another question. Your in tow and it pours down rain. When you get to the lake, do you clean your boat of road grime first or just get in and go and worry about the cleaning later?

The reason to not tow with the support poles is that it puts a lot of strain on the points where the poles hold the cover on. The more you do it, the more prone the cover is to stretch & ultimately tear in those spots. If your cover is stronger/heavier material like Sunbrella, it may not be as big of an issue.
I have towed with and without a cover (with & without support poles) with a few different boats and covers. Without the cover, I found that the interior gets abused (bugs, road tar, etc.). It is pretty much a "pick your poison" decision. Try different way and see what works best for you.
2whlin - I would splash the boat and when we stop to let the kids go for a swim, I get out the microfiber towels and wipe the road spray off.

I am no expert by far and many of these guys have a lot more experience then me but I have a 2008 22ve and the same cover. I have towed both ways with only one issue. The tie down straps on my cover are black and even with them tightened all the way up the middle straps rubbed against the gelcoat and left black marks which I have still not got completely off. I am currently looking for a new cover that is good to tow with.

I have a bow cover and a cockpit cover I use for towing. My previous boat was set up the same way. I have towed a few thousand mike with poles up but the do not touch the cover.
They insert into plastic vents built into the Aqualon Covers. These vent can be installed on typical material used for boat cover,
Look at my boat in my profile. The setup is great and on cool days we leave the bow cover on.

I tow with the over on all the time. In-fact I will not tow with out it. I have no problems with scratching or abrasions on the boat at all and it protects my windshield on my boat unlike my friend who had a rock hit his and break it costing him $1200 for a new one.www.automarinecare.com CWB, ACME, FlyHigh, Merc Marine, PCM, Marine-power, WETSOUNDS, HSE Volume Controls, Kicker, Sony, Samson Sports, and many other marine parts or accessory's.
