I have a 08 Z1 with the Marine Power 5.7 325hp and ZF45 transmission. After 25-30 hrs of operation I began to hear what turns out as drive plate spring noises. The noise got continually worse and the drive plate let go at 60 hours. The dealer replaced the part and could not find a reason as to why it let go. Same summer last year the noises started again after about 30 hours and it held out until I could get it to the dealer at the end of the summer. He then replaced the transmission and another drive plate at 125 hrs with again no explaination of why this is happening. Then this summer with every caution I can think of doing we put about 40 hours and the drive plate noise returned. It seemed to be worse in neutral so I kept it in gear unless we had to stop and never put it in reverse to see if that would help prolong the life. This seemed to help a bit but the drive plate went again at 205hrs. I cannot baby this boat any more than I have. I'm 56 and have owned boats since I was 23. The dealer now says that I must be slamming the shifter into reverse while under way in forward. What idiot would do that? If anyone has any idea of why this is happening please reply. The only thing I can think of is a misaligned drivetrain or engine or tranny mount issue. I don't know. Please help.
