I'd say he's screwed on the warranty if a full 750 drained into the bilge. Maybe insurance will help, though. With that much water, it could have easily gotten into his gas tank if it wasn't sealed properly.

I had 3/4 of a 400 sac drain into mine and it was very close to the engine. My wife noticed the carpet was wet. I immediately killed the engine, and unclogged the bilge pump and made sure the bilge was dry before restarting the engine.

Is this different than what MP would supply? These guys have always been very good to me when I needed something. Extremely knowledgable.

In my experience, "bad motors" start out bad and dont last long, especially not 96 hrs, something caused it. Pics would help!

None of the sacks drained into the engine compartment. Not sure if I made that clear

Here is where we are at now. Marine Power says because I didn't transfer warranty, I am out.

"Just finished the call about an hour ago. Not great, the boat is out of warranty by 3.5 months and the warranty was not transferred upon new owner purchase. The latter of these is the #1 reason for no coverage.

He is going to work with us on this as much as possible.
Number one, we are going to scan the engine tomorrow in the AM and read out the RPM percentages to him. This is what we discussed the other day about how the boat was used and he will make a judgment call on that too.

Number two, he offered up a “core engine” to build off of. This is not an easy thing to get through any engine manufacturer, but it simply consists of the block and the head. It saves tons of money vs. a short or long block, but takes more of our time to build it from your old engine. The cost on this is only $2,185, and I am estimating aprox. 13-15 hours on our end for Removal, building and re-install.

This is vs. over $5,500 for a short block and $6,850 for a long block plus 10-12 hours for R&R.

I have one more conversation with them tomorrow and I will let you know as soon as I have a chance after the meeting."

But the good thing here is that they are working with you. That is a great start IMO

I knew the not transferring the warranty thing was gonna come up unfortunately. W/ the economy the way it is due to the dems. and nothing good in the near future, warranty claims are gonna be followed to the T by all manufacturers! Tige's even tightened their belts w/ warranty claims, and they used to be fairly liberal w/ them.

Hopefully my PM will help some. Not totally... but better than nothing.

I figure the way it is running, it must be water in the fuel. Drain fuel/water seperator, some water, but not a ton. Put some fuel/water treatment in it and fresh gas. Still ran terrible. So, I took it to the dealer. He just called me and I somehow blew the #7 cylinder! I bought this boat with 8 hours on it in Oct. of 2007. I now have 96 hours on it. Wakeboard, surf, nothing crazy to trash the boat. Now, of course he is going to see if Tige' or Marine Power will offer any warranty. Crazy. He is saying $11,000 to replace the motor! Anyone heard of any motor issues on this year or any other Tige? It has the 5.7 litre 340 HP motor.

This might help make a little more sense. So the engine compartment filled with water belts sling water up injested into the engine hydro locked it and BAM BROKEN MOTOR.
I gotta call a spade a spade here. It is a bit cheap to come on this site and not tell us the whole story. I am sitting here thinking that MP motors are POS, and then I hear through the other thread that 750 pounds of water leaked into the bilge...Everyone else can come to their own conclusions, but I am calling this story seriously suspect.

I guess you can make some assumtions if you want. I did figure water by the way it was running. Pretty low of you (no pun intended) Tall Tige' guy to think I am making stuff up. That was why my first thought was water in the fuel.

There was some water in the bottom, but didn't even make it to belts or dip stick. We ran it like I said for about 10 minutes before it starting running rough.

Anyway, I thought I could get some help on this site if anyone had any issues like this in the past or had some contacts they had used to help them out.

This site is a good place for information and we are glad you are on it. TallTigeGuy is a very good person and member of the site. He is not trying to gouge at all but more so trying to say give us more info and be completely honest with the info as I am sure you have. We just need more detail to get you the correct help.

I just read the thread on Wake world my buddy posted. You are correct Tall TIge guy in that he did say a ballast drained. That was the day it happened and we suspected that happend because of about 6" of water in the bottom. we thought it was the factory ballast. Turns out after looking into it further, that was not the case. That is why I said no water from ballast drained into the hull.

Sorry to be so blunt. I do think that mysterious 6 inches of water in the bilge has got to be a part of the puzzle here as to why it failed.

Some have come on here and complained that the air intake on the 6.0 is in a bad spot because water can easily splash up the transom and then get sucked in and ruin the motor. I have not heard of anyone sucking water on a 340 HP engine, however.

And the obvious question is if the water was not ballast water, then how did it get in there?

They did the motor scan and no crazy readings on RPM's. in other words about 1/2 the hours were cruising speed (1000-2000)
and a little over a 1/3 was 2700-3000 (boarding, surfing).

Tanner - thanks for the info on calling Lee at Marine Power. He has been really great through this. He is having them tear down the motor to see exactly what the issue is. If it is just something that can be fixed with parts and not a block, he is going to send the parts free. If it does need a new block, he is hooking me up with a great price.

After looking further, there is no indication of water in the motor or that water caused this.

Basically they all agree it was something not right in the motor. Problem is it is 3.5 months out of warranty. But, like I said, I feel I am being treated right by Marine Power and Sport Boat NW. Will cost me a couple to few thousand, but better than $11k.

Thanks for all the tips. I appreciate it.

Will find out today exactly what the issue was.
