20 hours seems high. I pulled, and completely swapped all the bolt ons, re-installed a remanufactured long block, and ran it this spring and that was only 12 hours with about 2-3 hours of unproductive time. Total bill, less than $3000. 7 year/500 hour warranty included.
The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.

$5k is for a 340 hp MP long block. He doesnt need a complete. Tech book calls for 14-16 hrs complete. My statement was to proove a point. Even with problems you should be able to do it in 20 hrs. We charge $80 per hr.(1600) shipping (175) Long block (5000) $6775.00 plus 100.00 misc. shop supplies. Not $11k

Okkkk, I didn't know you were talking long block. I thought you were talking turn key here. Then yeah, 5K is prob. about right.

I guess it's always good to shoot high and hit low in terms of pricing though.

sorry I didn't give all the info on how I got the boat. It was ordered new by previous owner. He had it for a little over a year and only used it once. Hence the 8 hours. I bought it from him in Oct. of 2007. Boat has been great up until this point. Mechanic just said #7 cylinder blew out the bottom of the motor. He admits there are few things that could cause this. 1. trashing and racing the motor. - he pulled some chip in the motor to check the percentages that it has been at each RPM range and it proves I did not trash it. 2. bad motor and it is only a matter of time before it goes. While he admits it was a bad motor, he says he is at the mercy of Marine Power and Tige' on warranty. Not real sure what to do??? He said $11k for replace (I would not pay that) I think he said hourly rate is $145 per hour. Sport Boat NW in Seattle.
He has a phone meeting with Marine Power this morning to discuss. I am going to check with my insurance as well.

That sucks arse!!! Sorry to hear about that but there are some on here that will definitely help steer you in the right direction to get things done correctly. It does sound like the dealer is also helping you out with this also.

$145/hr, what does this guy think he is, a lawyer? If the motor is defective, Marine Power and Tige should stand behind their product.

I realize he doesn't need a complete motor... but I've seen alot of dealerships not want to mess w/ swapping over everything and just order a turn key. Which that what it sounds like they are trying to do here unfortunately

it shows sent goodwin. But I'll resend.

This might help make a little more sense. So the engine compartment filled with water belts sling water up injested into the engine hydro locked it and BAM BROKEN MOTOR. Now I was not there so I dont know this to be true I am just trying to piece this story together. So how much water was in the engine compartment? I have seen a boat that was driven with water in the engine compartment and he got real lucky it didnt get enough into it to damage the motor made the boat run bad he shut it down and it sat a few days then would not respond to throttle. He called us I went out to check why it would not respond found out it just made his throttle body stick closed. This thing was rust city I could not move it at all. The only way that much rust and corrosion to get there is from water getting sloshed/slung up there.

I'd have to agree with that, 20 hours seems quite absorbanant for a motor swap. These V drives are a pain to work on but I don't think it's that tough. There is some def padding or cushion in that estimate.

Heck for those prices you can buy a performance long block from GM performance, ready to roll with 500 ponies. It's not a marine engine but you can bolt it all on.
I don't want to go to work, take me wake surfing instead!

Dude!!!!! As I stated before the 20 hours was to prove a point. I was implying that you can over estimate the job at 20 hrs and still come in lower than the $11k. 14-16 hrs. is what most dealers/svc. shops charge and they/we dont care if you can do it in 6 hrs. I know I sound shi%#y but I am trying to help by sharing facts.

Thanks Billy. We know you are trying and we appreciate that.

Personally, I knew you were talking worse case scenario.
