Most boats our day have computer on it, your MC has it to control the speed, to control your engine, and all the information you see on the dashboard are some what info received from some computer. The touch control is just the interface. I actually think it will be better since it is not as many mechanical parts to break.

Instead of a keyboard for 6 computer it has one keyboard to control all computers, I just hope the interface would be at a affordable price. Just my opinion.

Fast forward to 5 years from now: You want to buy this boat, but if the screen breaks, which it is bound to, almost everything in the boat becomes non-functional. I don't want a 5 year old computer that has been outside for 5 years in my boat, period. Bu, MC and now Tige are way off the mark with this concept.

If I had a 5 year old home computer break, I would not even be able to fix it if I wanted to. Owning one of these boats with a broken computer will be a disaster because everything will become non-functional. Maybe that big open space to the left on the dash is where you will put all of the rocker switches to replace the computer in 5 years when they won't even make a replacement for it.

    Sorry for the rant...

Having said all that, I think this is the best looking dash on the market. The display looks better than any of the others, and I love having it offset to the right. The snap out carpet is a home run for sure. I don't know what welded vinyl is, but I sure hope it is as strong as it was before it got welded. Again, I wonder if someone is imagining owning this boat a few years from now.

Good point, EKS. Maybe it will work, but it seems those other computers are away from the elements, not stuck on the dash in the sun, wind, dirt and most importantly, water.

But pick any small volume customized display from 5 years ago and find a replacement. Can you still get parts for a 5 year old Ipod? And they made millions of those. Pick something like this where only a few hundred are made... I don't know if it could be profitable for anyone to provide replacements.

The Ipod is not a very good example, but I think you get the idea. I am trying to think of a comparable example.

          @timmy

Don't think I was disagreeing with you. My point is that it DOES come down to cupholders. It is funny how that is such a hot issue, but when it is 110 outside, and you need a tasty beverage... you know?

But there is NO WAY they could ever get that right for everyone, and I see the nice holder right next to seat on right, so it may take some getting used to it, but looks like they have plenty of cup holders.

As far as the touch screen goes, its just progress and it is the way things will go for some time. I understand the issue against, but think of this. What if in the future these touch screens were not stagnant? You know like you can download apps for your iphone? Imagine a USB port where you took a thumbdrive from your home computer and loaded up stuff onto your boat. Like GPS maps of lakes or updated maps of hidden spots, who knows what. The thing with touch screens, is like the iphone, the user interface is anything you want it to be. It can be updated and made better with software. Think of the cool iPod control that could be done on the screen, like on my clarion in my car. Even play videos on the screen from your ipod/iphone. You know, like my podcast. Had to mention that. Its just progress.

Another thing, I know the Sangers we had at castaic had a way to adjust the way you PICK UP riders. You could set easy or medium or hard pull up to speed. Imagine having programmable throttle maps for bringing up the rider. The fat guy like me needs a nice easy pull up. Kids a bit harder, but still easy, then there is the dude with the bad knees, and he wants a yank up and out. These maps could be programmed in. Then when you are short your driver, you can have someone else drive, and they just use the right map to pull you up, and its always right. Don't you hate being pulled up by someone who doesn't know how you like it?

The point is, this is a good direction IMHO. Even though it is still somewhat transitional.

Very very nice boat. They really put the touch in it this year and it looks great. From the interior to the exterior it looks like the BU and others might be chasing TIGE now.

I think they should bring one to the Lake Mead reunion to help us see it in action.

How hard would it be to cut a hole in the dash for a cupholder? Cut the upholstery, stuff it in the hole, glue it under the dash, and insert a SS cupholder with the drain tube?

I think tige could do this, or we could after the fact. Problem solved...

                    EDIT

scratch that. looks like the dash is at a more extreme angle than I thought. On a side note, MC nor Malibu have cupholders on the dash. Nautique does...

I look forward to seeing the 2010 boat in person. I don't particularly like this color scheme, but that can be selected per order. If my situation was different, I would most likely have a RZ2 on order instead of the Malibu I just purchased. I do have similar reservations about all the electronics on my new boat, but will have 3 years to see how it pans out. I think owners will be overwhelmed by the presets and having the boat functions dialed in before the rider even drops in the water. It is UNIQUE and I commend Tige designers for that - it is NOT a clone of a Malibu!
