New to forum just bought 20v

I just bought a 2004 20v. I have 440lbs of ballast in the rear compartment and when I add a few 200 lb friends it makes the wake decent but not great, it seems big but the pocket is real small. If I get a fat sac with 400 more pounds do I need to worry about how much the weight compacity for the 20v is since its a smaller boat? The wake also seems better when we drive the boat slightly to the left for a regular rider. We just started surfing and love it. I would love any suggestions. Thanks.

What's your speed and TAPS setting at that given weight setup?

We have a 07 20v and when we surf we put about 600-700lbs in the rear and then run a 250 sack in the front floor. Put everyone in the rear on that side (sometimes only 3 lighter people) and adjust the taps (varies depending on the person). The surfers weigh anywhere from 100-230lbs. We have no problem with this setup. We also steer the boat to the same side as where the surfer is.Thats the way we were taught and it seems to work. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the input, I have the taps set at 7. I tried it at 4 to 5 but when I was watching the wake it seemed like it was already crashing down but on 7 I get a nice big wake just small pocket. I have the speed at 11mph. I am hitting up lake mead tomorrow so I will give it some weight in the front and check it out. My friends and I were at Powell this weekend but the wind was crazy Saturday so couldn't get much experimenting done. If I get some pics or video from my friends I will post it and show the wake. thanks again

What I've found recently (after reading about Ragboy's swim deck mod's) is that if I load my 20' boat too much in the back corner the wake really sucks! The absolute best surf wake that I've had in my boat is on our club night with 9 kids plus driver in the boat. I let them sit basically wherever they want (ensuring that a few more are on the surf side). The swim deck has less damaging effect on the wake and it is tall, super clean and crisp and a very long pocket (easily a 8 foot pocket, a lighter rider can push it to 9 or 10 feet if they are skilled anyway). I've been filling sacs in both rear lockers and adding one more sac on the surf side when out with just 2 of us (front side ballast is also full) and the wake is still very fun. I always run taps between 3 and 4, speed 11, and drive straight... turning flattens the wake too much for me.

I use 2 V-Drive sacks in back locker, one short long one under the port storage from the back locker to the wall by the cooler and no weight in the front. I don't have any other sacks to experiment with but sticking my fat friends in the bow never did much good. My Taps relay is shot so no luck offering help with that.
My wave is acceptable but also has a short pocket. We can drop the rope, but I think tricks would be pretty tough until I figure out how to better this wave.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Sounds like you have a nice 20V setup for fun. Welcome aboard and enjoy the last of summer.

Thanks everybody! Went out today and found my wake. I bought a 400 lb fat sac and put it in the bow and had my 440 ballast full in the back and 2 200lb guys sitting surf side with taps at 7. I couldn't believe the difference it made when we switched the weight to the bow. Surfing went from a few seconds without the rope to minutes. Thanks again looking forward to being a part of this forum
