    Bilge pump melt down

I have a 2006 22v, the bilge pump melted from small carpet fibers, that had gotten into the float switch and pump motor it self, the float switch was stuck in the on position, the pump motor was trying to turn but could'nt, needless to say it melted, why a fuse did not blow I don't know, all we did was unplug it, but it was smoking, Iam surprised it did not catch fire, so check and clean your pump every so often.

If the light is on at the switch and no water is being bilged then you know it is clogged. The screen should be checked at least twice a year for debris.

my rear ballast bag drain pump came loose today, and flooded the rear and engine compartment. The bilge pump wouldn't get suction because air was in the line... Thought I was screwed until I pulled it apart and primed it. None of my aerator pump power cables were long enough to get in the bilge. Very frustrating to have 8 pumps and couldn't get one to do the job.

We actually just had a similar problem this weekend with our 2006 22V. First the ballast pump snapped on the discharge line so the entire rear locker ballast flooded the engine compartment. Bilge light was on but no water was coming out. Used our portable sac pump to drain out the engine compartment. Noticed a bunch of carpet fibers coming out of the portable pump. Then the bilge started working fine. I plan on making a carpeted wood box to place over the stock ballast pump so we don't break it again.
