My 08 has the rear locking differential.

So 1st or 2nd gear, which is best? I need to try one of those this week.

what's XFE? I have the hitch a little lower so the trailer is pointing slightly down, and I heard that if you lower it too much, the surge brake compresses and you burn out your brakes. Is it real hard on your tranny to pull up the ramp in 2nd? I'm curious to try that out.

I also had a bit of trouble with spinning tires on my 07 Silverado. All it took to stop the tire spin was to apply just enough throttle to get the truck started up the ramp and I've never spun the tires since.

I have seen a lot of guys spinning tires. I was in Laughlin 2 weeks ago and watched some rookie in a Ford F150 smoke tires on the ramp. A Marine Assist boat driver took his cell phone camera out and got video of it. I think it was a combination of lead foot and not having the hitch at the right level because I pulled up near this guy to wipe down and the front of his trailer was a good foot and a half higher than the back. I had no problem pulling my 21i out (which was much bigger than his boat) with my little Nissan Frontier (which was much smaller than his truck).
