First--Thanks Ragboy Dogbert & Surfdad for the tips. It was a matter of getting enough ballast in boat--9 people, a couple of big guys on surf side and a bunch of others in boat. Only had a single 540# bag in locker. Wave was actually curling @ 10.5 and 5 on taps.
Second key-- getting my weight/shoulders over knees/feet...and then see sawing/teeter tottering to not get too close to boat.
I free surfed right away on the 5'6" Liquid Force board, then tried our 5' CWB Razr. Was very easy for both. Then both son and daughter free surfed. Son better, daughter for a while, then leaned back.
2 other also got up but didn't understand the see-sawing and both had the board come up on the swim platform.
