Tigeowners...Thanks for all the nice comments. I will be glad to share with you any information I can about the new boat. I won't use this forum to say anything negative about Tige; mainly because I don't have anything negative to say. I have shown my 22i to a couple of people over the last week and feel that it will sell quickly. I bought it barely used in 2007 - drove 5 hours one way to try it out and make a decision on the spot. At that time a local dealership had picked up the Tige line, but very shortly it was closed and transferred to another. As far as I know they still rep Tige, but only have a couple '08 boats left over from last year. If I had purchased the 22i there and established a better relationship I would definitely considered a new Tige. I never regret the purchase and it has brought my son to a level that his skills have simply surpassed that of the boat.
That said, we narrowed our search down to MC X-Star, CC 210, and the Malibu VLX . The final decision was made by asking ourselves which boat, out-of-the-box, had the best quality wake for him to progress to the next level. There's no doubt that later on I'll add the lead bags that I own, but for now it's has a comparable wake with just the wedge compared to our direct-drive 22i completely loaded. This is not fair comparing apples to apples , but again we maxed out what our Tige was designed to do. When you add the factory ballast to the VLX it is awesome and I can't wait to get 6 to 8 people in the boat. The VLX is a new hull design this year and falls in between the 20' VTX and the 23' LSV. One thing I've noticed is that most manufactures don't offer enough ballast for the bow. There are a lot of great boats out there and it's definitely not an easy decision. Who knows what the kid will do, but maybe Benj will even ride for Tige some day!
One last shot of the 22i wake dialed in at 23 mph, taps on 5...estimated 1400 water ballast, 500 lbs lead, me, my son Andrew, the photographer Scott Hutson, and of course my son Benj riding at 75' out!
