    water in motor

looking at a boat, 2001 21V riders addition. Guy said he slowed down to fast and it took in water, said he took it in to the shop and had them dry it out (?) replaced plugs and runs fine. Should I steer clear of this boat?

Thats not possible, I don't think. Now if it sunk, that's possible. Sounds fishy...

Let see, last year a major hurricane. Hmmm... Water has to get up past the valve covers to enter the motor for the most part. Thats deep jack!
Keep lookin' We don't want any $25k regrets.

There was actually a guy that said he had water enter the motor through the intake that was on the front of the motor and angled down. He was claiming a design flaw on tiges part but that's the way the PCM he has was setup. We all called bs on his hydrolocking the motor this way. But that's what he was claiming, I don't remember the outcome. I would stay away unless the boat was real cheap.

When I was talking to Lee at Marine Power he said Tige had placed the muffler to high on some of the boats and that this very thing can happen. So it is possible. Just not real likely. If the boat had water in the cylinders, it would have already hydrolocked if it were going to. If he's been running it, then it's fine.

Not saying water in the heads and cylinders was a good thing, and it that it couldn't lead to rust... but not real likely.

Ask them if they pulled the heads, to inspect them. Or if they just yanked the plugs and cranked the motor.

Id want those heads mangnafluxed and the manifolds pressure tested if it were me. Make the seller pay for those. I'd also pay for a compression test before you buy it. I guess you could get away w/ just a compression test. Really I'd do those three things on any used boat. But that's just me.

One of my internal exhaust flaps ripped on a baja i had and hydrolocked the motor, it never ran the same oil pressure again, it got traded off for the tige.
