    Power Source

    I have wired my tower for lights and they are comming in on the driver side of the boat. I'm sure like most other boats the battery is on the other side. I have the ground wires grounded to the ground bar but I am not sure where to get power for the lights.

    The switch already has power as it lights up when flipped on. Any idea's of where to get power for the lights? I do see a lot of thick red wires running around the other switches for the interior lights, nav lights, horn, blower, pump etc.

    If the switch is lighting up, then like you say, it has power, there ya go!

      OK, I made my own light bar and used PIAA lights. They have a relay that has a thick white for power with a fuse, a think black that i ran to the ground bar. Then there is a smaller white and black for the switch. I thought the smaller black can go to the ground bar along with the thick black. Now what is left if the thin and thick white. I thought the thin white goes to the switch then I have to find a power source for the thick white with the fuse. The diagram has the thick blk and wht going to the battery which isnt an option for me.

      Hope this doesnt sound stupid but the wiring is new to me.

        Ok, so it's a relay, this is good and makes it easy, just need a little more info. Are the terminal on the relay numbered? If so, probably the two small gauge wires on terminals 85 and 86 and the two larger gauge wire on 30 and 87. The relay may have a 5th terminal #87A, ignore, nothing needs to be connected here.

        If the relay is numbered, here's how to wire it.
        Terminal #30 (should be a large wire with fuse) needs to go to battery+. There should be a 12V+ buss bar under the helm somewhere, if not, you will need to go to the battery with it.

        Terminal #87 goes to the + side of the lights.

        These 2 are the switched side of the relay. When the coil closes, these two contact close and sends power to the lights.

        Nest is terminal #85, it needs to be switched 12V+ from the ACC switch you are using. Again, this is switched, not constant 12V.

        Then terminal #86 needs to go to a ground.

        #85 and #86 are the control side of the relay and are a coil. With switched 12V pos and ground on each side of the coil, a magnetic field it created and pulls the contacts for #30 and #87 closed.

        If no number, then it's about the same: Wire the large wire with the fuse to the Pos (+), the other large wire to the + side of the lights, one small wire to the switched 12V out of the switch, and the other small wire to ground.

                Dude, we have a multi level breakdown of how to wire a relay...which by the way I barely know this is....including what the wires are labled. Which blew me away cause he did it blind with no model or anything. Then wham you post a schematic right after.

                    Great explanations, I have one question what type of boat and year is this. Each year and type have a slightly to major difference in power distributions. I think it was 06 or 07 when TIGE installed the switch panel under the drivers side. I know in my 05 it is different. So we need to know that to advise you of a good location to pull power and ground.

                      There is so much knowledge on this site. Thank you very much for all of the explanation. The boat is a 02 20i. The light bar just got painted and is drying. I have it all wired up, when I test the wires coming out of the tower I show 12V on the meter when I flip the switch up and down, hope that is a good sign.

                      I will post some pics once I get the light bar mounted. I could have bought a light bar online but I thought it would be better to build one. I bought 2 pairs of PIAA lights and we fabricated the bar to specs.
