    Learing the new Camera

I was playing with the new camera and came up with this picture. It is big brother taking care of his little sister.

        I think it's a nikon D300.

Yes it is a D200 I just could not spring for the 300. It is an SLR. When you go digital that is a must any more. I bought this video that has been huge in helping me under stand how to use the camera and how Photography works. I know nothing about Photography but am trying to learn and I know this camera has way way more features and functions than I will probably ever use. I just what clear clean and great looking photos. And it does 10 shots per second on the fastest mode 3 in the mid range mode. So I can get those actions shots. I really need to figure out how to do those low light shots.

I really like the fact that I have a picture of the family like this. My two older boys love this little girl to death. I feel for here husband. I can only imagine the interigation they will get. I won't even have to be the bad guy. I think they will take care of it for me.

When the light starts dieing turn up the ISO onn that camera. It's the button on the back that says ISO. Just hold it down and rotate the dial on the top/front while holding it down. On that camera you can go to about ISO 1600 before the noise starts getting pretty bad (digital grainyness)

That is a great camera for taking pics of the kids/skiers. You have to get a zoom lens though. Anything in the 200mm range is perfect for skiers. The 70-200 2.8 VR ($1600.00) is perfect if you can spring for it. There are cheaper zooms on ebay. You pay more for the faster (2.8) and the VR (Vibration reduction) but both are worth every penny. Since you are shooting with lots of light you can get a slower (higher f stop ((4.0))

BTW turn on the continuous mode which is a dial on the top left of that camera that has a, well look in the manual and it wil show you. Turn it on and while the kids are skiing just hold down the shutter release and it will shoot about 8 frames a second. which makes catching jr in mid air really easy.

For sure! Good job! These cameras are great for both action shots and shots like yours.

OK I will tell you all the deal I got on this Camera. I got the D200 of course. with the AFS Nikkor 18-200mm 1:3.5 - 5.6 G ED VR lens. Of course the 50mm lens that came with it. The Speed Light SB800 a bunch of memory cards a Pelican water proof case two extra batteries, A flash stand. The SB800 can be fired remotely from the camera and does not have to be attached to the camera. Flash filters, and a solar and clear lens cap all for $1900.00. I could not pass up the deal. It was used with minimal use. The person I bought if from has a multi media business and used it to take photos for web page production every now and then and his kids graduation pictures and that is it. He took maybe 3000 pictures with the camera at most. It was time for his business to get the 300 because he always wants the best, latest, and greatest equipment can't blame him for that at all when you do it for a living. So I lucked out and was able to get this one at a steal. It is way more than I will ever use but I am really starting to enjoy photography now that I have this.
