3 taps???

I believe that this was mentioned awhile back, then Sanger displayed their V237 with 3 trim tabs. Has anyone here ever pursued putting them on their Tige'?

According to a few pros that have ridden behind the Sanger, the trim tabs really allowed for infinate wake shaping from flat to very steep. Would this be of any benefit on a Tige'?

I've been thinking about a winter project; 2 more taps, fresh air exhaust and a swim deck mod (I have access to alum. at cost and CNC machines).

I don't know where you would put additional trim tabs or how you would wire to a single gauge.

I was at castaic with dennis when he was testing those boats and getting them ready for the contest. He definitely felt it that it allowed more adjustment to the wave. He specifically felt that you could make the wake, either SKIM or SURF style. Where a surf style wake would be a more steep wake with a well defined lip, and a skim style wake would be more like a flat top or double lip type wake. You can also do this by varying weight/list in your boat. More list, more steep. But a lot easier to do with a switch.

I don't surf behind my boat so /i have limited knowledge but you would have to install an additional gauge for the extra TT. I imagine you would only install an extra set on one side of the boat right??

the only thing i would be worried about is that a sanger has been designed to use the other 2 taps plates where the tige hasnt.. idk it would just stink to get it all on there and have it not make much of a difference because the tiges hull design might limit the effectiveness of other plates

I've checked into it enough to say that it would cost around $400 (actuators, cylanoid, and toggle switches). I'd add on on both sides if I was going to do it. As for them doing any good or even hurting the wake, I really wouldn't know what to expect. I wish there was a way to test this without actually doing the job. $400 for no effect would be a drag. Maybe I'll just upgrade to a new boat?

I would say if this has a chance of working/doing anything, it would most likely work on the tige.

The thing is, using them to list the boat over, is not going to work well, and def not as good as weight. Also, experimenting and learning with my boat, on how the boat creates/effects the wake...

You want the HULL to make the wake. The plates should only adjust the attitude of the hull, to make the wake different. I can see a benefit to 2 plates. Here is a scenario on my boat.

When I used to put my boat in gangster lean mode, I could go to a point, then the deck cut into wake, then something else cut in, not sure what it was, then something else. As I listed more, I could see effects from stuff on my boat effecting the wake. So I went to the smooth and shape cut aluminum deck. Now the deck makes no effect to the wake. So now I can list past that point. But that second issue I saw on the wake before, was not from the wake, but from the aluminum mount that holds the deck to the boat. It makes a huge cut in the wake, at a certain list angle. I have to go PAST that, and get that mount underwater more, and it goes away. Then if I go farther, I can get even another cut in the wake, and it comes from the rub rail. So there is this sweet spot, which I could only find with the aluminum deck, and experimentation. I have to list over enough, so that the double lip, flat wake turns into one nicely steep wake with a well defined lip. But then go over a bit more to make sure I get that mount underwater, and not too far to get the rub rail in the water too much.

This may seem like a pain, but it isn't, the sweet spot is actually pretty easy to hit, and pretty large. But sometimes I don't quite have my sacs filled to the brim, or too many people on opposite side of wake, and I have to do some adjustment to get that mount underwater. If I had the extra wake plates, I think I could put the opposite side down, to push the list over, just enough when I needed that little bit of adjustment.

I think that is how they can be useful but not much more. The wake needs to be made by the hull, and not the plate dragging in the water.

One more note, since I am thinking about this. I believe the double lip is caused when the wake is being generated partially from the bottom of the hull, and partially from the side of the hull. So to make the wake one nice clean face, you have to list it over enough so that it is actually the SIDE of your boat that is producing one clean face of the wake, NOT the bottom, and especially not the corner.

Boy am I waxing on here, but kind of enjoying it. ;-)

So I think one of the reasons the tige for instance makes a great wake, and say the epic and the natique are not know for them is the shape of the hull to produce certain wakeboard wake. The tige has been known to create a nice smooth transition, which can be somewhat adjusted to be steeper and "harder" with the taps. Where the epic, is a steep, hard wake for maximum launch. The shape of the tige hull and the taps, just leant itself to a much better surf wake. Have you seen the sides of the epic, and how steep they are compared to the bottom?

So, I guess my point is that it won't help a hull make a better wave, but can help finely adjust the attitude of the hull to make it more to your liking.

I heard from a bunch on MC owners on WW that those were needed to compensate for a poor hull design I guess everyone is copying Tige's "poor" hull design Except MC, they probably invented it

I seen that boat (2010 X-2) in person today at Seattle Mastercraft. The new dash and tower mounted camera is very cool. I was looking at a new X-35 $120,000 less $30k in instant rebates.
