Most helmets for wakeboarding will "bucket", where the leading edges will catch more water sometimes forcing it under the helmet and increase displacement of your head. A helmet can increase chances of a neck injury while decreasing chances of concussive injury. There are supposedly some high end (i.e., expensive) helmet designs that address bucketing but I do not know how.

Thank You for the Video, Nice job!!!

I will never understand the argument over PFD when someone is wake surfing? Some say “you don’t wear one when you surf in the ocean? “Coming from a surfer for over 40 years (yes I am old) it would be impossible to paddle out in the ocean with a PFD, and there are no boats out the surf that could run you over, AND it is the law!!!! That argument would come from a Dork…….LOL

          Thanks again

              Thats true.

One cheap way to reduce bucketing is by unbuckling the helmet. We do it while jump skiing all the time.

You can also drill holes in the helmet. But last time I did that, I got a real bad headache.

That would have been good information to have then. Maybe you could help me with something else. Whenever I drink coffee, I get a sharp pain in my eye.

I would also add that the ocean tide has a tendency to bring you back to the shore, in a lake your azz will just go straight down...

4 years ago when I first messed with this
I wraped the rope (ski rope) up as I got into the pocket.....
                          then I fell....
then my hand went through the coil...
                          then the coil got tight...
then I talked to God for a sec.....
                          then I got "lucky"
for the next week or two my arm was black and blue with some green.....
from my pit to my elbow....
The next time out I crashed the deck with my face.....
This sport will change with time as we all share our stuff. Thanks!
I think everyone who first starts to wakesurf has a "coil" incident. I have gotten to the point where if we forget the surf rope, I will not allow anyone to use the wakeboard rope for that very reason. I have no idea how you could bash your face on the deck while surfing. I would say that we surf 80%, tube 10%,and board 10% and no one has ever come close to hitting the platform. I guess if the boat slowed down perhaps, but I can hear the engine real well back there and would abort real quick. As far as the helmet/PFD, no does anything behind my boat without a life vest, NADA, zip, zilch. Wearing a helmet while surfing seems like overkill. I think you have a better chance of slipping on the platform getting ready to surf than you would actually surfing. I make my kids wear helmets on bikes, motorcycles, and snowboarding, but not tubing or surfing......but to each its own.

we have only used the wakeboard rope once to pull a surfer and it was our last time.. one of my friends fell and the rope wrapped around his finger and ripped all the skin and most of the muscles off of his finger. the only way they were able to put it back together was he had just enough skin still attatched to the part that came off that he didnt lose it in the water.. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE USE A WAKEBAORD ROPE FOR SURFING.. thats final

I have a solution for that. The Big Guy is doing more R & D. Its called the bullet release. I am testing it now. Its a piece that is put in between the rope and the tow. It will break under a specified load, protecting the rider. I haven't put up a page yet, still testing. I sell nothing before it is time. It can also be thought of as a tower saver for tubing and stuff. I am thinking of doing a group buy to get things started, AFTER testing of course.

                              http://www.samsonsports.com/bullet_release.html

Wait til after I test, and I will do a group by to save some money for everyone.

EDIT: You still should not use wakeboard rope to surf.
