problem with wetsounds!!

I agree before sounding off try working with the vendor.

I have called a couple of times to WetSounds and was a recipient of top notch service from Justin and Tim. If I had one I would wear it advertising WetSounds with pride.

I would not hesitate going with another set of WetSounds speakers except for one thing and that is an empty money pit for now

Since I live in Houston (where Wetsounds is actually located) I have been to their place. I can honestly say that they are not only REALLY helpful guys but they are boating enthusists as well. These guys are some of the coolest, most helpful guys I have ever dealt with. They actually tell you how to set your system up without copping an attitude like some other places I have dealt with.

I think you will find them VERY helpful.

being a dealer of WetSounds products, meeting the whole team in person yes that includes WETSOUNDS1 Tim I know they have the best customer support, are the most helpful, and willing to stand behind their products better than any other manufacture. Not to mention they build and design for the boat world and that is their focus with out any questions or reservations. (Yes sometime they need a few more black PRO 80's in stock) but that is another issue and I am just messing with you TIM.

So to continue on.

My thoughts on this are as follows and it for sure is not pointed at anyone just my advise.

1. Never tow your boat down the road if you have the Quick Disconnect Clamps with the speakers mounted. The whole idea of the clamps is to take the weight and load of the tower and speakers. To prevent damage. (I do have to say IMO the older style clamps were much faster to take the speakers up and down with. But the newer style sure do look and work great).

2. If you want to leave the speakers hooked up that is great. Use the permanent mounting clamps, and get the covers for the speakers. But remember the covers are not weather proofing devices and your speakers are still susceptible to weather damage while storing or sitting. The covers will need to be replace about once a year. Get in good with your local WetSounds dealer. He will help you.

3. Know that WetSounds first is a business and that is how TIM pay's his bills to survive. Chances are he supports kids, wife, House Payment, Etc. However he also knows that he will not stay in business if he does not take care of freak issues like yours now and then. But you have to give them a chance to evaluate the problems.

4. I had a similar thing happen to my clamp they were the old style. For what ever reason the threads kept striping out of the clamp block and it would spin on the tower. Knowing this was an issue for me and I did not like it I spent the money and bought the new style design and I am giving those a try. WetSounds did work with me and replaced the clamps for me as long as they could until they ran out of inventory on them. Then they worked with me on the price of the new ones to upgrade knowing my issues from day one.

5. Be willing to work with them and they will work with you. It is a give and take on both sides.

6. Clean your speakers and wipe them down with wax and polish like you do your boat they will stay looking nice and check your clamp often for damage, Cracks, or any irregular imperfections. You may have to replace them every now and then. But again get in good with your WetSounds Dealer. They again can take care of you. WetSounds does a good job at selecting their dealer to represent their products and image.

I hope this helps and I know that WS will work to take care of you as much as they can with out breaking the bank for you and them. They are great people and to be honest it is really cool and refreshing to see the owner of a company have hands on it like TIM does on his business. In today's world that CEO/Owner relationship to employees and customers is gone for the most part. I think that is why TIGE and WS make such a good partnership. They both truly care about their business and customers.

Great suggestion re- the quick disconnect before towing long distance. We are heading to Arkansas(Bullshoals) this week end and I will disconnect and put them in the rear storage compartment. A couple of minutes taking them down and putting back up will cover a theft concern I have also when we head down we stop 5/8 of the way and then are fresh when we get to resort and unload etc.

I had that happen to my 80's 2 years ago......ALWAYS disconnect while towing. Yes it adds 5 minutes to setup and tear down, but I think almost 99% of the time these have broke was from the stress of towing and not riding on the water.

Also, FYI. DCS and Laketime were old first generation speakers. The new ones are completely different. We have drastically changed the speakers since then. They have an internal support structure made out of glass fiber composite that holds the driver and supports the weight. This glass fiber ring is what supports the weight of the driver and not the housing supporting the weight. But even with the new support ring we have strengthened the housings anyway using an even stronger composite than we used in the past.

Good to know... But I still take them down when we tow to the lake, it's 260 miles 1 way
