I waved at a water patrol boat as it cruised through our ski chute ... the officer did a double take like he had never gotten a greeting wave before.

More likely, he did a double take to make sure I was not flagging him down. Still, it looked funny

Sunset was at 7:42PM(doesn't actually get dark till 8:15). After the 15 minute lecture, the unecessary breathalizer and safety check, he wrote the ticket out for 7:52PM. Little bit of a subjective area here.

This sheriff was the most arrogant pr!ck I had ever run into. I can't believe he was such a stickler on this rule, especially since he was talking about the jet skier he jsut pulled over that blew a .22. Funny thing was taht he was braggin about how well he knew this lake and he can cruise it at any speed in the dark. On the way back to the ramp he cruised passed us and came within 10 feet of hitting a hazard bouy. What a tool.

I think there are much bigger concerns to worry about than a boat full of experienced boaters
Which lake?.....Nevermind....I didn't read the whole thread!

Here is a picture from a previous trip but is at the exact same time we were riding. The sun had just dropped under the mountain in this picture and we were riding away from it. 45 seconds later we were pulled over. This is technically after sunset and therefore illegal to ride according to the sheriff.

There is a Casino about 20 minutes up from our house that always puts on fireworks for the holidays. As we were driving back down about 9:30 at night we see a boat ahead of us sharply veer left and head straight into the side of the river. This was a section of rocks & bushes & it made another turn just in time so skim the bushes & not run aground. The driver got tossed out along with a 3 other people. We saved the three people & they found the driver about a half mile down the river. There was about 20 people on this boat, half of which were kids. Everyone reeked of booze.

Very lucky that no one was seriously hurt. Just cuts, scrapes and a lot of screaming & crying kids.

Go to court. It's going to be fun explaining the time of the ticket compared with the official sunset.

my 2cents: Know the local laws. We boat in KS,MO & IA so it pays to know where I can ski 30 mins after sunset vs. sunset, what the local flag rules are--raised vs. handheld when skier is in water. I look at weather underground for weather/maps & sunrise/sunset so I'll be prepared to know "official" sunset time so I can turn on my NAV lights.

Boy Scout Motto--Be Prepared... There are enough "Wally's" out there that Lake Patrol needs to focus on. Ain't that right Tequilla Sunrise?

Quite the truth, wallys out everywhere!

Water patrol has always been good to me, flip em' a water when you see them, and say hello when you can.

I've even had them tell me the good quiet coves to ride in and the secluded ones to have a evening party in.

And I am an Eagle Scout!

Sunset is not defined in the statute, so I believe it to be somewhat subjective. And certainly not 45 seconds after what accuweather.com says constitutes a violation.

My problem is that there are hundreds of acts committed with recklass disregard for the laws every weekend out there and he gets us for this? Were we being reckless or having a disregard to the laws?

I was just saying that a judge may not know the difference and I doubt the lake patrol will show up to argue. I'd fight it and see what happens. Worst is you have to pay the ticket.

Saw a Centurion Avey get run over by a cruiser Friday night. We were about 100yrds away on a dock when it happened. All you could see was the two bow lights going towards each other the cruiser was speeding in a no wake zone and then you see the cruiser's bow lights pop up in the air about 10 feet and you hear a large cruch
It ripped the tower and windshield clean off the Avey. One guy in the Avey was bleeding pretty bad when they brought him to the marina dock. The cruiser driver went home with the PO_PO What a waste of a nice boat, saw the guy in the Avey out about 2pm just happen to look over to see him go by. Good thing he was the only one on the boat. He had about 5 people with him earlier in the day.

We are takign it to the judge. Only problem is if the judge decides to subpeona the deputy. Normally you think they won't show for a something like this, but in AZ they get paid overtime if they go to court. So it is an incentive for them to go.

                            Ouch!

One jet skier T-boned another on Saturday and took the persons foot off. That was the worse story I heard.

I really can't comprehend how this stuff happens.
