Which Tige to Buy ?

My son and I are considering purchasing a used Tige but are UNSURE of which model would suit us best. We did have a 99 Sunsetter V-drive.

We definately want a V-drive, unless we went to a 22' boat then I think a DD would still give us room.

Our ojectives are:
1. Big wake
2. boat Space
3. Price

We are thinking of the $22-$23K range.

Just wondering if you could share an opinion

I have a 22ve and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The room is unbelieveable.

Look out west. They seem to be giving away boats out there.

Prices out here on the west coast are still low but have been rising since summer is here.
Centurion makes some great boats. I love my Avy and the non ballast wake is better than my previous 06 22V. With ballast it is bangin.

Don't overlook the 22i...Carter I went out with pro Adam Fields this summer and was really impressed with the Avalanche!

Jeez Carter, he said which Tige to buy! LOL! I think the 03-05 22V would be a great option if you can find one in your price range. The 06 22Ve would be even better, but that's going to be a lot more money.

The '01-'02 will be the 21v, which is actually 21'8". Yes, it will have wood stringers, but they are actually stiffer than the composite stringers Tige started using later on. Tige completely encases the stringers in fiberglass, so they are not even exposed.

My '99 has take a lot of abuse over the years as we get some pretty rough water on my home lake. It's 10 years old and has over 750 hrs on it. It doesn't look 10 years old and it still drives like new. If you're looking at a 21v, it's a very solid boat. Add ballast and it will throw a great wake. The surf wake on it is pretty nice too.

That said, the new Ve and RZ hulls will throw a better wake, but they're probably a little out of your price range.

If you can't find a v drive, the 22 i/r model is a pretty nice boat with lots of room, especially for a direct drive.

I had a 22i and can attest to the room that it has. Very spacious for a DD and there is even a seat on the back of the engine hood. Also, the 22i is fabulous as a crossover. Very skiiable wake and produces a very nice wakeboard wake as well. I drove quite a few boats before purchasing and the 22i fit our needs best hands down.

I'd suggest going out and driving loads of them.

Carter, not a slam at all, but that water you are on looks clean and yet the lips of the wake have a fair amount of slop on them. We got better results on our 22i. Is there something I'm missing with the photo?

The Avy's are sensitive to weight. I have been experimenting with weight placement. The picture is with 750 lbs. in each locker and about 400 in the bow. I can get the starboard wake clean but am still working on the port side. The wake is tall and has a great ramp.

X 2 about the wood thing. You must have been listening to some retard on Wakeworld. The wood in the Tiges prior to 2003 was completely encased in fiberglass and I have yet to hear of a case of wood related failure. Do not be afraid of it. I had a 2002 and it was an awesome boat. With heavy weight, the 2002 and earlier would create a small foamy lip on top of the wake because of some spray pockets in the hull. At average weights, it is never an issue, even then, it was pretty much just cosmetic. In 2003 the spray pockets were eliminated, and the wake 'looks' a little better.

Since I don't own a Tige anymore or a Centurion, I'll take a stab at the Avalanche problem. The Deeper V near the transom of the Centurion boats makes for a great surf wake, but it essentially 'rolls' with very minute differences in weight distribution. A flat bottom will stay more stable. So when you have the weight less than perfectly ballanced, you get a list and the wake washes on one side. I have heard of some owners being frustrated because it is so hard to get both sides clean.
