My 2009 Lake Powell Houseboat Trip

I wish that I had more to chronicle this year, but here goes.

The trip had to be shorter than a week because of some scheduling conflicts, but we still had a great time. The weather was very much uncooperative, and if it wasn't the wind, the wallys were out in full force in the area we were camped at.

Some great memories with the family and friends were made of good food, and good times together.

We stayed up Kane Creek Wash, which is just around the corner from a cool rock formation called 'the cookie jar' right off of Padre Bay.

My 5 year old daughter showed a surprising love for fishing after she caught her first Channel Cat off of the back of the houseboat. She kept begging to go fish some more. I caught a couple about twice this size and had some nice fried Channel cat one night for dinner. I pretty much ate it all myself, can't figure out why no one else was digging it.

The sunsets at Lake Powell can be dramatic. This was taken with my Blackberry. Notice the waves...that is the kind of water I dealt with most of the time.

    And another cool rock:

On our way to go to brostock, we noticed these really cool 'waves in the sky'. They disappeared very quickly, but we thought it was a cool cloud sighting nonetheless.

Brostock was cool. I never have even been to a live wakeboarding competition before. The coolest thing there was the helicopter that landed on top of the houseboat. When I win the lottery... As far as the competition goes, the riders were awesome, but from 200 yards away, it was really sort of hard to enjoy. I really like it on TV, it goes way faster too. But the hanging out with the other boaters was cool.

My wife continues her passion for surfing. She just goes on forever. We put together a decent surf wave for her and she was in heaven. She is 5'9" tall to compare to the wave there. The water was not so bad that we could not surf, so that was good.

We camped at a pretty good spot. The beach was a little steep, but it was well protected. If you look close, you can see the chop just as you get past the partially submerged bushes, it was just enough to make me think I was going to wakeboard on glass, but it never materialized like it usually does. Everyone was safe, and it was a good time. I love the sleeping on top of the houseboat looking at all of the stars.

One question..does that sausage tube help with the surf wake?

I have my NVS Tyrants that I used to have on my old boat. I once posted a thread about a very rare problem I was having with them cutting out and I think that scared the new owner...so we reduced the price and I kept them. I was able to sell the MC can speakers for $1500. They have never cut out on me, must have been a bad connection I was unable to track down or something. It was so rare, that I could not troubleshoot it.

It takes 15 minutes to pump up and take down, so it seems easier just to tie it off and keep it pumped all the time. That tube has been worth every penny, and has had a lot of use.

As soon as the cove would get calm, 3 Wallys would start messing it up. The cliffs would reverberate the waves back and forth forever. Just to the right is a long beach that had about 10 houseboats camped there, so it was tough to get alone. My best only run, was right there when I managed to mess the water up first. Next time I am heading for Weatherill(?sp) canyon!
