We just got back from a week at Shasta and it was a great week. Not much wind and not too many people out there. We were always able to find smooth water for boarding. The 1st pic is my 16 year old surfing for the first time without the rope. Now he wants a new board so he can work on some tricks. 2nd pic is of my boys and I at the waterfall. 3rd is a pic of my buddy catching some air and the 4th is our older son showing his mother some love.

The lake was down 60' from the crest of the dam this year. Last year we were there a week earlier and it was down 120'. Shasta is a great lake. The economy has definitly hit the resorts up there. I was told the houseboat rentals are off 40% and the cabins we stay at are off 20% this year. Instead of lowering the rates on the houseboats they are opting to sell off boats.A man can only be beaten 2 ways - give up or die!

Shasta is THE lake to be on, huge, smooth and always room. We spend a week there every July 4th, in fact we'll be there next tuesday through the following tuesday! Usually we rent a five bedroom house in Antlers as we always have a crowd. This year however we've shook it up a bit and are camping at the 80 person group site on Hirz Bay. So far 60+ peeps, 7 wakeboats and one pontoon, should be awesome!"Call me anything you want ... Just don't call me NOBODY!

As a kid, my family went to Shasta every other year, and we loved it. It is the reason I always dreamed of moving up to Northern California from Southern California. Its a great lake, but living up here, it can get over crowded. Some other great gems up here are Trinity Lake to the west of Shasta in the mountains, and our home lake, Lake Oroville. Oroville is almost as large as Shasta, and similar topography, very beautiful. But its funny, everyone goes to Shasta, or down south goes to Folsom, so Oroville is never that busy, at least what you would be used to at Shasta or the Colorado River lakes.
The economy is definitely taking its toll up here on anything boating or recreation, and RV. They cancelled the fireworks this year on the lake, and so far, the lake has been VERY slow. Great for us, less people, but horrible for the marina and the business. Combine a drought and the economy, and its been like a perfect storm.
If any of you ever heading up this way to Shasta, send me a message and we would love to show you around Lake Oroville for a day. Get to meet the wake9 family and have some fun on the longboard or something.http://wake9.com/

I heard last week they were going to release more water from Oroville to help with the Salmon spawning. If this is true how will it effect your boarding fun. I would love to bring the family up to check out your lake. My boy needs some surfing advice.A man can only be beaten 2 ways - give up or die!

I have heard that, and it was worse last year. I can tell you that the lake is better/higher, and will be all year, than it was last year. We surfed on oroville all the way through september without issue. Now I have my boats in a slip, so launching is no longer an issue, we will be riding all the way into september at least.
So just go to wake9.com and to the contact section, and hit me up with some dates, we would love to have you, get your kids up wakesufing, and give them free shirts if they can free ride.http://wake9.com/
