    Opinions...2001 23V vs. 2005 24V

Hello, need a little advice and I thought where better to go than the TO forum.

We are looking at purchasing a boat and I have come across two Tige boats that might fit the bill. One is a 2001 23V and the other is 2005 24V. I know...lots of difference in the years and that is why I would like some opinions. To help set this up here is a little about each boat. We are new to inboards (owned an IO for a few years) but kids want to get into wakeboarding and surfing.

    2001 23V:
    - Low hours (~160)
    - Lower cost...this is nice and a big factor
    - No tower or ballast...will need to add this and will increase the cost - any thoughts on this?
    - Looks to be in good shape and comes with some miscellanous stuff (fenders, ropes, vests, wakeboard, ski's, tube...)
    - Like color combination

    2005 24V:
    - Newer boat with low hours (~60)
    - Higher cost but at upper end of budget
    - Has tower with speakers but no ballast.
    - Looks to be in good condition
    - Does not come with "extras"
    - Not as wild about color combination but don't dislike it either

The kicker is that both boats are out of state which makes this much harder.

Any thoughts on each of these boats, the good, the bad, what to watch for or things to avoid?

I apprecaite any and all input as we work our way through this decision.

    Thanks!!!!

you will need ballast on the 01 just to get to the stock on the 24v.It would really depend on how much more it would cost for the 24V.But if it were my choice it woould be the 24V all the way. good luck

Both are great boats. You're going to want to eventually have your own extras.

You can add a tower for as little as $1500. Both are great boats. The 23v is built like a tank, but has lower freeboard. Last year I went out on SPBFAN's 24v and that's a nice boat, too. You're going to need toys, so maybe spend less on the boat and leave your options open for extras

It's going to be a tough choice, I'm sure the $ is the big quantifier. I love my 24V, but have been in two 23V's, Moki's and another one. Moki's set up is great and is a very nice boat. The only real option that I envy on the newer 24ve is the activity center on the back. I don't have integrated ballast, if you go huge you will want it. I have a couple sacs that we fill a few times a year for boarding, mostly for surfing. The 24V will throw an awesome surf wake weighted correctly. I think both boats will serve you well. I would think that you will be very excited to get out with either, but how soon will replacementitis hit with the older boat vs the newer one. I know for me it's definitely before the 10 year mark. I am feeling it now with my 05, it's so old and out of date Good luck with your decision and enjoy boating which ever you choose.

Go with the 05 if you can afford it.
I had an 06 22V and loved it except for the sloped transom.
It sucked putting wakeboards on because of the slope. My wife hated it and had to sit on me which I guess wasn't a bad thing .
You will definately need ballast to pump up the wake. Tiges should have never been sold without ballast IMHO.

Thanks everyone for the input, I really appreciate it. There is definetly a price difference between the two but not as much as I would have thought.

I understand the "replacementitis" thought, I would really love a new one, but that is not in the cards right now. Besides, with how busy we are with sports and stuff with the kids, getting out might be a litte harder than I would like.

The 23V has the dual captains chairs which I like so that is another factor.

Are there any huge differences in the build or hull of both boats? I think one has more freeboard than the other. Any other major differences I should be aware of?

Does the older boat have the ski pockets on the hull that alot of people seem to complain about? (I think it's some type of stepped hull.)

We wound up with the 24ve, because I'd had a 21 foot other boat. Got to ride in my buddies 24 foot malibu, and felt like a bus driver when I'd look back over my shoulder while driving.

The sloped transoms are a pain if your riders don't put the board on standing up.

I love my hull! But, to answer your question, yes, the 23v has spray pockets.
