I just had to throw some parts at my old outboard on my fishing boat and the evinrude dealer said about half their carb/injection issues are ethanol related. She suggested to use the startron or valvetect fuel additive religiously and it should help. Also checking the fuel water seperator every month for water or sediment.
Is this something we should do every tank full? Is something like Lucas injector cleaner work also or do we need a fuel additive? I am lost when it come to this stuff.

I'm going to try it year round. Their info. says:
Improves marine engine performance YEAR-ROUND, not just for seasonal storage
Of course they are the ones selling their product?
I found it at Pep Boys. I don't remember the cost. I know West Marine probably carries it as well, but probably more $.
The way I remember it, it looked like it was double the cost of the normal red stuff, but looking closer it treated twice as much fuel as the red stuff. So, that would make them equal in price. Again, that's just how I remember it.
My father in law owns a towing business, he is seeing a huge increase in disabled vehicles with faulty fuel pumps. There is no standard to how much ethanol is blended with gasoline other than 15% minimum E-85. Some test have shown >20%. The only way to ensure that your fuel is reliable and safe for gasoline engines is to buy aviation gasoline. It contains no ethanol (By FAA rules). It seems that the Feds know about issues with automotive gasoline but won't accept the risk in airplanes.
