    Cooler not draining in RZ4...

This isn't a big problem, but an annoyance that maybe someone can help me solve. The ice chest/cooler in our '09 RZ4 has always drained slowly when I pull its plug at the end of the day. Yesterday, it was one of the last things I did after I parked it at home and opened all the hatches to let things dry out. This morning I went to go put on the cover, and the cooler was still full of water.

Looking forward from the starboard v-drive locker, I can see that the drain line from the cooler runs aft, then is draped up to pass through a hole from the v-drive locker into the engine compartment. I blew some air back through the drain line to see if it was blocked. I heard bubbles coming up in the cooler, so that's not the problem. Seems to me that it just has to have enough tilt to the boat to overcome the gravity of that upward section of hose when it goes from v-drive locker to engine compartment. I usually pull the cooler plug as we wipe down the boat and a couple of big hills on the way home must be steep enough to drain it. But just sitting at our house with the trailer tilted at maximum isn't enough to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should it be routed differently?

Also, as it currently is setup, it looks like it must just drain the cold water onto the side of the engine (the line doesn't extend down to the bottom of the bilge). Does this need to be changed?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Sounds like they routed the hose wrong to me. On the RZ2, the hose doesn't even reach the engine compartment, they just drain it into the storage locker. I never use that cooler anyways, I use the big padded cooler that the boat came with.

That is because you drink your beers faster than the ice can melt in that thing. j/k

Interesting, mine goes all the way into the compartment.

Dingle, maybe a ballast puppy might be needed to help drain that ice chest. j/k Personally, I would try and pull the plug at the lake after you load it. Standing water in the ice chest isn't good because that would promote mold.

Mine drains into the aft starboard locker also. I keep paper towels, trash bags, and a few small things in there. I may try to extend the hose into the bilge soon. Actually, none of my hoses extend into the bilge. They all drain into the various storage lockers. The carpet stays damp. I think Chpthrl Rhino-lined his storage lockers. I may try that in the future.

my buddies 09 RZ2 drained out into the floor. the factory apparently did not hook up the drain hose. after having the floor freezing cold 2 weekends in a row he got up in the compartment and hooked the line up himself. it just drains out into the aft of the boat for the bilge to take care of. with yours not draining and the hose routed up too high to allow the cooler to drain, that wold definitely sound alot like a mis-routing problem. sounds like you could definitely re-route it correctly and it should drain normally.

I dont think I remember looking to see where mine goes. I use the cooler for storing shoes.

Just re-route it so it will work.

I use mine to store dry foods

Probably because there is no stinking insulation.

My cooler on my old boat is awesome...keeps stuff cold for days...even ice.

Seriously, you might be able to get in there and add some spray insulation or that expanding foam they use in houses.

I have not looked to see about the RZ but our 22i cooler was insulated because the insulation was clogging the drain.

We use ours as the trash can! I've thought about taking the stupid thing out altogether and having more storage but the next owner might want it....
