I also keep thinking if I buy them and one goes out. There is not going to be any waranty so I just have a broken light screwed to my transom.

True risk with the budget lights, no warranty. The hole needed is not that big, I've installed perfect pass myself, 2" hole in the hull, and I just put two cupholders in the deck between the back seat corners and sunpad. I guess I am over the fear of putting big holes in my boat. It is intimidating at first, but just measure lots and follow the numerous instructions that people have posted for drilling/cutting in fiberglass.
