Started out then went to low idle?

Was wondering if the Merc has a temperature sensor that wont allow the boat to go to half or above throttle until engine is running about 140+ temp? I had my 99 2000i at the colorado river (in parker az)this last weekend with cool water temps and 3 times I went to take off after just idling about 1 min or less (due to current and heavy boat traffic)and the motor shut down or went to idle until the engine warmed up and I had no probs?

    Any advice would be helpful.

I've not had that issue, ever. However, I do try and warm up the motor before taking off, especially when we're all sacked out with lots of people on board.

I normally do too but we were in a tight situation with all the boats and current. Wont do that again. Will stay on the anchor in neutral until temp goes up.

I swear I read something a while back about starting out then engine going to idle for a bit then after engine warms up no probs? I just cant seem to find it...anyone have a link to that?

I guess I can try it the next time I'm out. We have a cold water lake (60-65 degrees yearround) nearby.
