Transmission Problem?

Just wondering if anyone has had his issue? Lately as I start of is seems like the prop slips. The engine revs the it seems to catch. Could the transmission be sliping? I recently had the transmission flids changed at the local dealer. I have checked the fluid level with the boat sitting level after running for a bit and it is ok.

I gotta ask, but did you replace the prop (or did the dealer) and forget to put the key on the shaft?

No the Prop has not been changed.

Did they use the correct fluid?

Sniff test and color. Pull the dipstick and check, i'm 99% sure is should be Dexron transmission fluid and NOT gear oil or motor oil. The color should be pink and will have a different odor from gear oil and motor oil.

It looks like Trans fluid. Pink in color like Dexron. Could low fluid levels cause this type of behavior? I am going to run a bit later today and then check it again. The only changes to the boat recently was when the dealer changed the Trans fluid. There are no alarms or warning lights.

The trans in the boat works much like that in a car. Fluid pressure engages the clutch pack, friction between the clutches turns the output shaft. If the fluid is low, the line pressure will be low and the apply pressure will be reduced, causing the clutches to slip.

Makes sense. I had low tranny fluid and now that you mention it, it did feel like it was slipping.
