    Big OOOPS!

20 plus years of boating and I had my first incident.
At Lake Mead on Sunday while under way appx 300yards from shore at @ 15 mph just cruizin I came upon an almost island(in 2 weeks it'll be an island) and ran accross it
None of my 9 passengers were injured as the boat didn't jerk to a stop just grinded across, the boat was'nt so lucky.
Propeller wasted, shaft strut broken and rudder shaft bent backwards and only minor glass damage. I will post picts soon.
I was lucky in many ways---first and foremost No injuries(besides pride!) Only 6 miles to launch and Nevada Park Service aka Game Wardens towed me back for free. The NPS(see game wardens) once making sure we were alright went to mark the hazard and ran their boat into it as well.
My boat is now at The Boat Shop BC with Matt and the est is $6200.00. I have Boat US for insurance and will let you all know how their service is.I think I am done boating for the next 5+/- weeks.
Usually there is water color change or unusuall ripples at water surface to help see shallow spots but this time it was just not visible.....talk about being an embarrassed captain!!
Lesson learned in the time of decreasing lake levels. Be safe everyone!

I have had a few close calls at Powell, I can easily see how this could happen to anybody. Good luck with the repairs!

Man that does stink but as others have said it is good no one was injured and that your boat can be fixed.

I need to change boat insurance and am looking at Boat US so any info you can share about their service would be great.

I hope they can get you back on the water sooner than 6 weeks!
