    Ballast Pumps on 07 22VE

I just bought a Brand New 07 22VE, and I have had a problem getting the ballast system to work. The first day out I could not get them to fill at all. The next morning I stuck a water hose into the inlet and the rear tanks finally started pumping water, I still can't get the front tank to fill though. I think the pump just needs to be primed, but I'm not sure where the intake pumps are.

Can anyone tell me where the fill pumps are, I'm assuming the pumps that are mounted directly to the tanks are to empty them only. Is there an easy way to prime them to get them to work?

Also, the rear tanks seem to struggle to completely empty, they will pump most of the water out, but the rest must eventually syphon out since I can see that eventually they are empty. Is this just a problem with the factory ballast system?

Thanks for any adivice you can give.

The 2nd pic in this post (xpjim's ballast install) is about the same location of the factory manifold and fill pumps. The fill hose runs along the sb side stringer to the transom thru-hull mushroom. http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...3&postcount=32

There have been some 07's with vapor lock problems at the pumps. These aerator type pumps need water around the impellers as they are not self-priming. Your dealer should be able to reposition the manifold to get it lower then the thru-hull, this will allow the air out and water in when the boat is in the water.

A temporary fix is to idle in reverse with all 3 pumps on, this will help force the air through the pumps and the pumps to prime.

A little water left in the tanks is about normal with all ballast systems, factory or custom.

Thanks, I have a few more questions.

Should there be some type of screen where the water for the ballast comes into the boat, mine is completely open.

How do you get the carpeted panel off the floor to access the pumps. I tried gently prying on it with a screwdriver but I can't seem to get it out.

      Thanks

You have to pull the rear seat box out first. I think I've got some pics from when I did my ballast install, let me look.

*EDIT* Here is a thread for servicing V-drive and trans, but it shows how to access the floor panel. http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5510

I forgot to mention, that the tige will not fill when above to much above idle speed due to the pickup being in the transom.

Thanks for the help chpthril. I got the floor panel off and figured out what the problem was. The two pumps that fill the bow sac have a bronze backflow vavle connected to the pump that keep water from flowing back into the system when the pump is not running. The sealant that was used on the threads had sealed the flapper shut on both valves, and the pressure generated by the pump was not enough to open it. Everything is working great now, and I saved a trip to the dealer.
