    How did this happen?

My Rival system has been awesome except for the gate valve failure well published on the Rival install thread.

At Lake Mead Last week, I was filling up both rear sacks getting ready to surf. I heard water coming out the starboard side so I knew it was full. I shut off the pump to that side, but the water just kept coming. I thought that was strange. Much to my surprise, the water was coming out the bilge hose, not the ballast overflow . I check in the engine compartment and there is about 6 inches of water!

Water can be seen oozing from the starboard storage compartment into the bilge. I dig into the compartment, removing the water weenie and other tube that sit on top of the V-drive side sack, and the side sack is nearly full, but water is pouring out of the ballast pump that has broken.

    Check this out!

So it looks like there must have been enough torque on the pump when the sack started to fill that it somehow just broke the outlet off. There was still about an inch of the yellow plastic in the discharge hose.

When I saw all of that water in the engine compartment, my first response was "Houston, we have a problem".

I am thinking of just connecting a hose to the quick release, drilling a hole in the back wall, and installing the pump back there, then drilling another hole in the wall up high to run the discharge hose. It would run right next to the bilge hose.

What do you ballast experts think? I suppose it would clean up the install a little, as you can see my ugly wires running to the pump.

Thats my plan. Just want to clean it up a little. I am going to add the straight quick release on the hose from the pump so I can still take the bag out easily.I am also worried on my bowsac since the drain pump fits funny up there. On my drain pumps i do not think they will break because they are threaded and I put the hose over the threaded parts. Just do not want anything else theat could possibly puncture the sac.

tall, those ballast pumps break very easily. One of my kids just dropped one into our V-Drive compartment. The end of it snapped off just like yours. It really doesn't take much.

I had one break in exactly the same way. The new pumps have an improved design, hopefully it will solve the problem. The picture isn't the exactly the same pump but it shows the new design and fitting.

This is the fourth summer for me with this boat and the Rival system. During the first summer while at Powell the same thing happend to me. I was able to get it to work for the rest of the week with a little effort and an extra clamp. And then replaced it. I also bought an extra pump to keep in case of emergency. Luckily it hasn't been needed, but with the bags filling, draining and getting moved around a little, it is easy to see how the discharge can be broken.
