Heads Up on After Production Ballast Install

Found out some very interesting info today If you plan on having your dealer Install the Tige ballast on a Ve or RZ after the boat is delivered, good luck.

It seems that the Ve's and RZ's ordered WITH OUT ballast have deeper transom storage coolers then these models ordered with ballast and the hard tanks will not fit between the cooler and the floor.

There was some talk about whether or not the tanks would fit in with out removing the engine...........they look like they will but the alt will have to come off to slide in the starboard one. The port side looks like it will go with out much problem but this is only half the battle because you would have to exchange the storage coolers for the shorter ones. That is a whole nother thread

Interesting. Sounds like Tige decided to "custom" make the coolers depending upon the factory ballasts are wanting to be installed by Tige.....

My dealer tried for 2 weeks to install a set of hard tanks in an 07 22Ve. After a lot of going back and forth w/Tige, somebody at Tige finally came to this conclusion

I watched the Tech attempt to put these tanks in place. They needed about an inch more clearance to go

If I get by the dealer today, I will measure the depth or my non-ballast Ve and a with-ballast Ve

It may be that they need to be installed when the boat is being manufactured and that you can't get it to fit otherwise.

ive never looked at it that close but i find it hard to believe. they dont have two different molds for a ballast vs non-ballast boats. so what am i missing that will not let them fit?

              KKO,
the stock ballast hard tanks sit across the transom, between the engine and the transom, sandwiched between the floor and the activity center storage/cooler. The stock hard tanks will not fit between the floor and the storage/cooler because they were to tall. The Tige Engineer said the storage/ coolers were different depths depending on whether the boat was ordered with or with out ballast.

I'll try to take some pics and measurements tomorrow of my Ve (with out ballast) and a Ve w/ballast. I dont think they have 2 different molds but 2 different depths of Ve/RZ activity center storage/cooler.

ok ill check the ve and rz we have at work and see what they measure but we only have w/o ballast not sure what good it will do but maybe some of the guys here with ve/rz and ballast can measure and we can compare.

Thanks for the heads up. Moving the alternator and all, what a pain.

This is going to be good to get to the bottom of this.

The RV tank manufacturers could make a tank that is 1 inch shorter for not too bad of a price. They seem to be capable of making any size and shape you want.

I have been tinkering with getting the factory ballast, but then I would need to install something extra for surfing. Has anyone done that with a T on one of the lines and maybe a second pump or something?

Good because there were a few that were having a hard time dealing with the possibility that there are more than one type of center activity center on the Ve's. Me included but it could have been possible.

Ops, things like that happen to the best of us....

I got a call today about my second prop mistake of the year. The restoring of the prop is only $170
