Fix for Leaking Pro X bags in rival system?

I know a bunch of people on here have the rival system with the pro x bags, what is the key to keep them sealed? My front bags leak like crazy when we get up on plane, I am talking half the water comes out of them. We have taken them off and put more tape on the connectors and it still leaks. We took the bags out and tested them for leaks, there are no tears in the bag. The leak comes from the fitting at the discharge pump on the bottom. I thought I heard of someone using rubber cement to fix this but I would like to hear other options. Thanks.

Are you sure that the actual bags are leaking? I would be willing to bet money that you are losing water through your fill line due to pressure from the water once you get on plane. I had to install ball valves to keep my bags from draining completely once I got on plane, now they work great.

The only real way to fix this is buying reversible pumps that don't freespin.

How's the old switch V holding up??

There is no way I am losing water thru the fill line, there is a gate valve on the system that closes the thru hull so the fill lines have no where to drain. We also have the check valves on the system. The water was leaking from the connection point on the bag, water ended up just past the bow walkway toward the stern of the boat.

Which connection is leaking? The bag mfgr suggests using PVC cement on the threads screwing into the female fitting on the bag. That makes it very permanent and leak proof. On all other fittings I use some 3M waterproof sealant on all barbed fittings and then clamp them fairly tight too. That front bag is the hardest to seal, but it is possible.

The bottom connection is leaking, where the cartridge pump is attached to drain the sac. It is leaking at the connection between the attachment that goes directly into the bag.

IMO. You will to replace the bag and the pipe with the PVC Cement and only the bag with the Rubber Cement. The cheaper method would to replace the bag only.

akdoc: Good call on the gate valves. I thought about doing that, I still may in the future.

The Switch is holding up great, just changed the oil yesterday! We've been on the water literally every day this summer, 2-3 sets a day. My brother and I installed some better speakers (polk) around the interior, including 2 up front that we had to cut the glass for (scary, I know...) but it looks sweet. I'll get some pictures for ya. We also put in a new headunit with a digital Ipod hookup, and redid the ballast all around. My brother was pissed he had to leave it behind when he moved to cali, but he's doing work with the Epic guys now, so he's happy.

Garrett, that is great. The interior speakers did need an upgrade in that boat. I had a good head unit in it when we had it, just took it out when we traded it in...sorry!!

I bet you were shaking a little cutting the holes for those speakers! I'd love to see some pics.

Da. Bell, Please clarify, I am not sure what you mean.

I decided that this bag was always going to be used in my boat, and that a permanent attachment in the discharge line was not bad, so I made it permanent. I had some leakage from mine, so I sealed the threads up with some PVC cement, and I do not have any more leakage.

If permanent attachment is okay for you, then use the PVC Cement. It will work very well. I would use the Rubber Cement because I would want a solution other than replacing the bag and the tubing to the bag from the ballast pump. Example if a hole is found in the ballast bag:

PVC Cement: You will need to replace the bag and the tubing from the ballast pump to the bag.

Rubber Cement: You will need to replace the bag only.

The savings is the cost that the tube from your ballast pump to the sac.

You won't have to replace the tubing if you use a quick connect on the bag, that way the only thing sealed to the bag would be the male fitting.

Yes, but someone mentioned using PVC Cement and that would glue the male fitting to the bag. But I think I understand what you are saying. I'm just saying that if you use PVC Cement, it is permanent and any thing that you use it on will have to be replaced if the bag were to have a hole in it.

I have not had any leakage from the quick connect, so I just cemented the quick connects into the bag.

If I cemented everything into the fitting, then I could not remove the bag to let it dry underneath, and that smell would come back.

um, my bags leak due to a tear, but the fittings don't leak one bit. Mine is from rival. what hoses are you using?
