    How to make "Bomz"

First off here is my disclaimer:

"LEAD FUMES ARE DEADLY AND POISONUS DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE NOT REALIZING YOU COULD HURT YOURSELF OR OTHERS, JUST BECAUSE I DID IT, DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN, NEED TO, OR SHOULD!!!!!!!!!!"

OK what you need to get:

1- turkey fryer or anything else you feel like melting lead with
1- cast iron melting pot, got mine at Atwoods here is one like I have http://store.greenfeet.com/itemdesc....004-02311-0000
1-magnet on a long stick. Autozone has them for getting stuff out of engines, they work great!
2-PVC Caps. The size is dependent on how big you want to go, and how heavy
    1-PVC pipe. I used 4 inch
1- 5-gallon bucket filled with Ice water about half way the colder the better
2-hot pads or towels to hold the melting pots handle
1-pair of vice grips to hold the PVC pipe when pouring the lead in
Pipe dope to glue the PVC caps on
Webbing, needle and thread like this http://www.rei.com/product/737298?vc...P_CLIMBING_TOC the needle and thread just go to wal-mart and ask for some heavy duty thread that will hold webbing together, and then get a needle to suit.

    LOTS OF LEAD

    Step one.
    Set up your turkey fryer

    Step two.
Light your turkey fryer and put the cast iron pot on it

    Step three.
Fill up the pot with lead. (If you cover it with some foil it will melt lots faster. Or if your pot has a lid use that) Remeber the fumes are poisoness/deadly so stay up wind of the fumes.

    Step four.
Drink a beer while the lead melts

    Step five.
If your using tire weights, pull the tire weights out of the molten lead by using the magnet on a long metal pole like I was talking about. Make sure that you don't knock your pot over! Remeber the fumes are poisoness/deadly so stay up wind of the fumes.

    Step six.
Get the scrap metal off the magnet by however you feel like. I just used a piece of wood laying around.

    Step seven.
Add more lead to the pot, as it will probably be half empty after you pull all the weights off it. Remeber the fumes are poisoness/deadly so stay up wind of the fumes.

    Step eight.
Assemble a piece of pipe and cap together using pipe dope. The longer the pipe the heavier the pipe will be. You can calculate the weight using some simple math. If you need help with this just PM me

    Step Nine
Repeat steps 3 through 7. Omit step 4 if need be

    Step Ten.
Once the pot is full of lead and only lead you will want to scrape the slag off the top. I used a spoon, or an extra tire hanger. Just use what ever you want.

    Step eleven.
Put the PVC pipe and cap into the bucket of ice water. If you have an extra set of hands here it would be nice. They can hold the PVC pipe down in the water, using the vice grips and you can pour.

    Step twelve.
Leave a little bit of molten lead in the pot if you can as it will help the lead melt faster.

    Step thirteen.
Put the pot back on the burner, and repeat steps 3-7, of course omit 4 if you need to

    Step fourteen.
I tend to try and weigh the bomz after the third or fourth pours on a scale just to see how much it is. You can choose to do what you want. The exact weight will vary with each length as your lead is not pure. You will always get some slag in it and that will mess with your calculations. I would add an inch to your calculations or even two just for good measure so you can always cut off the extra.

    Step fifteen.
Once you have it the weight you want, cut off the extra and put the other end of the cap on it.

    Step sixteen (optional)
Sew your self a handle using the webbing, thread and needle. Makes moving them a LOT easier. Just do an X pattern, and fill in the sides so it looks like a square and you will have plenty of strength for the handles.

Ok, well that's about it. If you have any questions just let me know. And remember guys and gals, please be careful if you do this. I don't want to hear of anyone getting hurt cuz of the fumes!!!

How much did the Lawyer charge you for that Liability Disclaimer

J/K, great write up. Although the fumes are dangerous, I think this is one of the best ways I've seen to use lead. Sealed up, compact, easy to carry.

          Thanks for sharing Dom

I'll stick with Step 4 without melting the lead. Seems to be less of a chance for injury.

              Chpthril,

Thanks glad you like it. It works great for me, and they are very very nice. The hardest part is getting the lead. But then again in OK it was very easy, here its not quite as easy, well that and I don't want/need anymore so not looking hard.

              Da.bell,

That step was thrown in for you and i! we will be doing some of that if we work on your ballast sytem

I meant to take pics of the handles, but I forgot, will work on getting a pic of that tonight.

Not sure about the ballast system just yet. $ is the problem and have to do the budget to see if I really need a second job. I have been delaying getting the second job for awhile. But, needless to say, we can still do step #4 when I win our bet.
