Lead Ballast??

tire weights. Go to any place, like hibbon, firestone what ever, esp the smaller local shops and just ask. Cali it's hard as they have to buy it and recycle it and blah blah blah, but in ok they would give me buckets at a time and didn't care.

here are some pics of my "Bomz" is what we called them.

The final pic is a bad attempt I tried to wrap it in black duck tape. Best thing to do with them is just leave them alone. I also sew a 1 inch climbing webbing handle with them. Just so happens all those weights were in the boat and I didn't feel like taking the cover off again to snap some pics. If you want to see anything else let me know.


Also, please please please don't anyone try this at home. If you don't know the danger of lead vapor. I wouldn't put these pics and stuff on how to make them on WB like people asked, but I think here it's more professional, and there are not as many "Kids" running around.

it was nice, but after a few rides in the boat is tore it up, so I didn't do another one that way!! I need to take it off, might do that tonight after it's dark.

Could you possibly put together a short write up of what you used specifically and how you did it? Start a new thread please... I think I want to do thise to put another 250-350lbs up front in little 50lb tubes...

I saw a post awhile back about boats being ticketed for using lead as it becomes a safety risk vs. water ballast. If the boat fills up with water, water ballast becomes neutral. Lead will take it to the bottom. It is something to consider when calculating the total weight permitted by the Boating Safety plate.
We're not that competitive when it comes to the need to fly, so our wake has been good to us so far.

Lead will take it to the bottom. It is something to consider when calculating the total weight permitted by the Boating Safety plate.

yeah that's very true, but how did they see it? mine are in the bottom of a storage area, one that never gets opened, even when boarded. As long as your with in the range of what your allowed you will be fine. I don't have a sticker on my boat, so I don't have to worry about it. They can't get me for too much weight.

They can get me for not enough PFD's, and don't ask, but the ticket for that one sucks!

The picture of the boat I saw with the lead had the water line about 2" below the bump rail. Pretty obvious.....

All boats are rated-no sticker does not mean no ticket. I suggest you find a boat like yours and at least know what the limits are-especially if you like to pack your boat with people.

um, i was told by the dealer it's considered "yaught class" and I told the ranger that and he said ok.

That being said, he said all "Yarght class" he informed me just had to have life jackets for the people.

Not sure what's right/wrong, indifferent. I just make sure from here on out that I have enough jackets if I'm playing taxi that day.

wow, 2 inches of water above the rail, he had to have a TON of people, unless it was an older model boat, they sat so much lower it's sick.

I have had well over 4000 pounds in my boat, and my teak was only 4 inches under water. granted, I couldn't plane out due to the chop, and not enough weight up front, but oh well, hind site is 20/20

Your right, they cant make an over weight ticket stick, so the H2O 5-0 will just right you one for operating boat in unsafe manner. Kinda like wreckless driving, the cops can use it for anything.
