    04 Tige 22V: Is this OEM Ballast?

    I'm starting to get motivated to get the boat ready for spring and want to clean up the ballast. The boat came with this ballast, I ran it all last year with good results but I want to replace a few of the pumps. My main concern is that the shutoff doesn't close, need to reposition it. A barb on pump broke and it could have been ugly if I didn't catch it.

    Anything you'd change on this set up? I'm not going to redesign the set up, with that big intake at the transom I'm pretty much stuck with this design.
    I want to replace at least two of the 500 gph pumps with something faster. What would fit in easily, any new pumps out there? Really the 500's weren't awful but faster is better.

    Looks like a factory setup to me. If you have to replace the pumps, go larger GPH.

      That was the original "log" manifold set up. The limiting factor with your setup is the 3/4" hoses. Most of the higher volume pumps (over 750 gph) will have a 1-1/8" outlet. Mike will have more experience with this situation as I am not sure how much you can neck down the higher volume pumps.

        The single biggest issue with that system is that the plastic pump bodies get brittle over time. If you just look at a pump cross eyed, the outlet nipple will break off.

        So, if you plan to fix stuck ball valve, plan on replacing all 4 pumps due to the above issue. 2nd, that PVC manifold is all glued together, so nothing thats really serviceable. Will likely need to rebuild the entire PVC manifold in order to just replace a bad ball valve. May be able to free up the ball valve once the manifold is out on the bench.

        Rule offers an 1100 GPH pump that will thread in to those .75" manifold outlets. Downside is that it uses 1" or 1.125" hose on the outlet. The factory tanks wont accept anything more then .75" hose unless you can find a .75 MPT x 1" HB 90 fitting for the tank. A 750 gph pump is about as fast as you will find that uses the same .75" hose.

        Best upgrade, cap the transom inlet, replace the tanks with sacs, and start fresh with a complete new ballast system.

          Luckily the tanks are gone and I have sacs so that opens up more options.

          The ball valve won't close due to the positioning, it hits the depth finder. I can close it when if I lift the entire manifold up, but I have to have floor/bench out. Like I mentioned before I did break a brittle nipple off of a pump from moving a hose, luckily I had tools and was able to jump into action quickly before it sank lol.

            Johnson makes an 1000GPH pump now that is like you 500GPH,

              Johnson specs are confusing. The 950 is spec'd as 1000 GPH but its hard to tell if its the long inlet straight threads or the short inlet pipe threads. the short inlet NPT will thread into the factory manifold but the long straight thread inlet will not thread more then a couple threads.
