    Z3 PnP bags

I saw there is already a thread on PnP bags for the rzx2 but I didn't want to hijack the thread with some Z3 questions. That said, I have two questions, any help would be really appreciated.

    1. Which bags are used for PnP on the Z3 with surf XL ballast?

    2. How do these bags fit in the rear lockers? When I have the rear bags full there is only about a 10" to a foot of space. I'm trying to figure out if it's even possible to add more bags back there.

Thanks! I really appreciate all the feedback here.

Not sure what year Z3, but in general, if you have the Surf-XL, there is no additional ballast plumbing as you would find on the RZX boats. With that said, there are aftermarket custom Z3 sacs that are a few hundred pounds more then the OEM surf-XL sacs.

Got it, thanks! I have a '17. I didn't think it was possible but figured I'd ask. Looks like I'm getting more lead.

If you want more weight 500 lbs of lead 250/250 in the rears under your ballast sacs makes quite a difference and isn’t that big of deal to drive around with.

+2 on the hard weight for the Z3 -- 250 in each corner made it a different animal, I'm going to try going to 400 in each corner and see how it trailers.

I had a 1/2ton most of last year and the 500# made a noticeable difference in the tongue weight and how it towed. Now have a 3/4ton and it tows without any issue, so I think I can handle a little more. Might stack it flatter and move it up under the bags rather than a big stack in the corner as well.

After going through this and a few other posts i'm now definitely getting lead for my R23 and will be interested to hear how lead layout affects wave. I probably won't be surfing again until April so will be checking back in then.

              Related questions

1- Does anyone know if '18 R23 hull shape is identical to '17 Z3/R23? I seem to recall the answer being yes from dlr, but would love to hear from some experienced users.

2- Has anyone done homemade lead (steel) bags that can beat leadwake or other commercial offerings for price & convenience? I have a buddy who runs a scrap yard and i can probably get steel on the cheap. But the bags to safely hold it would have to supply on my own. Amazon has sandbag but the leadwake with the handles makes mobbing them easy-ish, as much as lugging 50# of lead around is easy.

I know one of the brands, I think lead Wake... maybe... but they will sell you empty bags to fill yourself. And yes the r23 is identical.

We've got a good ol Idaho boy that uses the steel plates that you put on the front of a John Deere. Has totally damaged his engine dividers but he doesn t seem to care.

I do believe that the steel shot is in some kind of an oil to prevent rust and then placed in a plastic bag inside of the black outer bag with handle on pre made bags that are out there.

There shouldnt be any oil in the bags... If you have bags that are leaking oil call the supplier and tell them. Leadwake for example had a run where the supplier of the pellets was cut using oil and then sat in a monster drum with said oil before being put into bags. It wasnt pretty and it was only a selected run. All of the new bags for example are fine like sand, and dry of oil.
