2017 Tige R22 - ballast and TAPS settings

    Good afternoon,

I'm curious if anyone has a 2017 Tige R22 and could recommend some ballast and TAPS settings for both Surf, Wakeboard and Cruise

For surfing the manual would indicate a center tap between 4-6 and the surf tap also between 4-6. I'm running 100% ballast in the back and 40% up front but at either of those TAPS I'm just getting a ton of whitewater. The only way I get it to clean up it to run the center TAP at a 1 and the surf tap at a 2, but at that point there isn't much push from the wake.

Wakeboarding I'm running about 40% in the back and 100% up front, with a center tap at a 3. One side is normally good but the other side is normally white water. We were riding with my wife and daughter sitting on the port side with me driving on the starboard. The two of them weigh pretty close to what I weigh so I think we should have been pretty balanced. Does anyone think that one side just naturally needs more than the other? I played with adding more in the rear starboard since that was the white water side but I could really never get it dialed in.

Finally for cruising, once we're above 30mph the boat starts to porpoise violently if I'm at anything more than TAPS 1. The manual seems to indicate that top speed should be reached at TAPS 5-8 but there is no way. Not that I go faster than 30MPH very often but on a calm evening it would be nice to know how to get the speed up a little bit. I've tried putting weight in the bow but that doesn't seem to help at all.

Side note, does anyone know how to engage the AutoTaps and what it does? I thought you just tap the TAPS button on the top right and it's supposed to turn orange but mine doesn't..unless I need to be in a specific setting or something?

    Thanks everyone,
    Chris

The way the prop rotation works you will naturally lean to the starboard side, so when wakeboarding add a little more weight to the port side to work with the prop rotation to create an even wake.

With the taps we almost always cruise with it at 1 or 2, the way the convex v hull is designed without the plate you cant get up to speed. Up until yesterday I didn't know auto taps was a thing.

Thank you bsreid. I'll definitely try adding a little more to the port and see what that does to the wakeboard wake.

I have rz2 basically the same boat.

Look around on the forum but as a new tige owner 50 hours on boat now there is a lot to read.

I run full rears and if I don't have many in boat full fronts.

Start on taps at 1 and then move up to 2 or 3 depending. I say depending because you need the noise at 9 degrees rise. Once you get the boat at 8 or 9 that is a good angle to get the *** of the boat down in the water and make a nice wave.

Taps 3 or the left right taps is also a bit of an adjustment. If you start at 2 or 3 you are normally close. I have been up as high as 5 with bigger crew when boat is loaded and already leaning. Regardless of taps 3 setting aim for 5 to 6 degrees of roll. More or less in my opinion doesn't improve anything.

My boat is a 16 so it has an inclinometer. I have read that the 17 doesn't. Get one for you iPhone.

As an FYI. I have also added 500 lbs of lead 250 on each rear locker. Not needed but with only my wife and kid in the boat it helps get a nicer wave as the *** gets down even deeper.

Go play with it and you will find a good wave pretty easy

I have a 2016 R22 and I have found the best surf set up for me to be both rears 100% full, front surf side 100% full, and front non surf side around 60-70%. The taps settings will vary for me depending on how many people are in the boat and where I seat them, but I have found starting at surf taps at 1 and center taps at 4 is the best starting point and I will rarely change it from that. I found it to be much better with speed at 11.2 MPH as well.

I'm on the hunt for the best setup as well in my 17 R22 so I'm interested to see what others are running. Although good, it could be better. After trying the factory presets and not having any luck, I called back and talked to one of the sales guy who used to ride professionally. He made some good recommendations and after I tweaked those a bit this is what I've ended up with so far:

Surfing I put 75% in both fronts and 100/85% in back, 2 center taps and 3 on surf side...11.2mph. Seems to work fine...not as steep as others I've seen go by, and doesn't quite curl. Push is ok as well but still looking to improve that.

Wake I'm at 75 all around with center on 2 @ 22mph. Still get some wash on one side and seems like it could be a bit crashy still.

Again. Would like to hear from others with same boat and what they are doing for the perfect setup.

Any other good surf setups? I seem to need a bit of tweaking as my sweet slot isn't all that sweet!
