Okay spent the whole weekend playing with the settings and trying to dial in a goofy side wave..... I ended up having to basically empty out the opposite side on the rear to get the wave to clean up. with both rear bags full i am getting WAY to much wash in the wave.

I am startig to wonder it there may be something wrong with the boat? I have not found a happy medium on ballast to make it easy to transfer sides.

Sounds to me like you are having an actuator problem...

Is there a way to test them out of the water?

I'd highly reccomend you start with your taps all the way up and then bring it down until you like your wave or you see it giving the rider enough lift.

Too many people make the mistake of not using the full range of the taps 3 system. When you do, it gives you context for how the surf taps and center taps plate shape your wave.

So...here is what I'd reccomend for a setup.

            Rear ballast: 100% full
Front ballast: 70-100% full depending on how many people in your boat ( more than 4 then fill the front all the way)
            Speed: 10.8
            Center taps at 3
Surf side taps at 15....watch your wave start out huge and washy...and then slowly bring the surf side taps down until you see the length start to form and the white water disappear.

From here you can adjust speed/ ballast weight to perfect. Creating the right surf wave is all about understanding the wave your boat is capable of creating, and manipulating it from there.

              2 things...

              1. Tige is updating the software for boats.. meaning if you take your boat in for service it will most likely get an update. The update includes getting rid of about 8 settings in taps 3. Most of the settings are unusable. The system is made to be run between 1-5 and thats really it.

              2. With stock weight, you are never going to fill the bow full. Every R21 I have been in ran perfect with roughly 30-60% if the taps and taps3 were set correctly.

I would spend more time tuning the boat based on running attitude then anything else.

4-6 degrees of list and 7-10 degrees of bow rise.

Fill the rears full, set taps 3 to 1/4 and taps 2 to 3-5 depending on whos in the boat and then add or drop bow weight to get to those listing/bow rise numbers.

Also, when weighted fully the actuators dont love to move the correct numbers while underway. While it might work some or even most of the time it wont work always and it even if it seems to work it may not be accurate. Stop the boat and set the settings, then test. Then set the other side and repeat. The transfering seems to work flawlessly regardless.

I have only been out the once this year, heading out again tomorrow as day 1 was pretty weird. When I demoed my 2016 z1 last fall we had the taps 2 at about 2 or 3 and taps 3 left at 7 and right at about 8 I think. It was good, not huge but clean. There was only 2 of us in the boat with no gear so all and all it was awesome. I went out last weekend and with the same settings it was weird. Right was always good, big and clean. But left was washy and no push...sometimes. Sometimes it was good. I never did go right down to 1 though...the lowest I setting I tried on right was maybe 5. That sounds like it could be my problem from what I am reading on here. It was the damdest thing, sometimes surf right would be good and sometimes washy...little wind and no current. Water about 20' deep so there were no other variables. Sounds like it could have been the actuator thing you guys are mentioning perhaps...thoughts?

Got to test the actuators on the trailer and found out the port side was not working properly. Dealer has one ordered for me so that should fix it rite up.

What where your ballasts at? I am trying to dial mine in also. There is normally only 3 to 4 of us in the boat also. I am trying to figure out how to set for a steep wave and also how to mellow it out and make longer. Thanks for help in advance.

Full...I just pulled my front left bag out last night, it had a twist in the middle of it and wasn't filling or draining properly. That could have had something to do with it. Hoping to head out again today for some more trial runs. Take a bit to get er dialed in...lol...

Switched up my prop and found a sweet spot on my 2016 R21 for prop & ballast.

Boat has the 360 engine and the factory 537 prop was not even coming close to cutting it at 4,000 ft elevation. Boat would not even pull a slalom skier out with both feet in without turning him into a submarine for the first hundred yards or so with about 750 lbs people and gear. Surf ballast loaded and taps set deep was even worse. Once we switched to the ACME 1617 prop, it felt like we had a brand new boat all over again. This boat has good power, it just took a quick prop change.

With the ACME 1617 prop, my R21 will pull like crazy out of the hole compared to before, and will still run 38.4 mph @ 5250 RPM @ 4,000 ft elevation with a the passenger and gear load listed below. The guys at ACME nailed my prop target with one phone call on the first attempt.

                          Wakeboard Settings
We really haven't played with the ballast much for wakeboarding, but have found that when running about 22.5 mph, Taps 2 @ 4 gives a really nice pop for the teenagers doing back flips across the wake. When I offered to fill the ballast to give him more pop, he quickly reassured me he was "just fine" working with it they way we had it when just running Taps 2.

                          Surf Settings - 100% Taps:
All surf ballast completely full, with 100 lbs lead shot in 25 lb. bags in each rear corner under the rear ballast. Taps 3 @ 10, Taps 2 @ 4. Speed @ 10.8 to 11.2 just like is stated above. Went out Monday night with 1,700 lbs people and gear (including extra ballast) and the boat was throwing a really nice wave in about 12' of water. Once we get into deeper water, it should clean up even better.

Surf Settings - Hybrid List / Taps:
We have found that when using approximately 6-8 degrees list and 8 degrees bow rise (thanks to the posts above) with the surf side rear ballast completely full and the bow @ rated weight capacity we are getting a pretty respectable wave with Taps 3 @ 1 and Taps 2 @ 2 @ 10.8 mph. Not quite the wave as the full on Taps settings above, but the fuel consumption is significantly less.

Yall gotta dial back the bow weight. Unless you are running big time weight above stock then no need to run full up front.

For example.... my slammed 16z3 with around 1200lbs extra in the rear on top of the factory bags was only running 60-70%

Run just the rears full then add a little in at a time until the wave starts to get wonky.

                            Tune based on taps 3 1-4 and taps2 3-5

Speed at 11.2 minimum....... Adjust speed for length.

Sorry, dumb question but when the screen has surf and taps. Is the surf setting referring to taps 3 outer plates and taps the center plate?

Kind of a thread revival but how did you go about doing this? I can enter the dealer mode however once I am in there I can only seem to select the type of boat and whether I want normal or "extreme" (I think the category was extreme) surf...
