how to get good wave behind 08 rz4

I have put 870 in rear locker, put 750 on seat , moved people around in boat but still only get a little push right next to swim deck . This boat did not come with factory ballast so I'm having to start from nothing just ordered 2- 250 sacs for bow . I have made a homemade wakeshaper it helps if I have the same weight on back but still not able to throw rope and ride for more than 8 sec and wash out.if anyone has and knowledge on rz4 surfing can could give me a current set up that works that would be awesome! Taps speed weight thanks

What speed and TAPS setting are you running? One thing that will help clean up the wave is if you can find a swim platform from the '09+ RZ2/RZ4. The one that is on your boat in the picture is the original design that disturbed the wave. The RZ's really like that rub rail as close to the water line as you can get it but it sounds like you have enough weight already. Take the new 250lb sacs and put some weight on the opposite side so the corner of that platform doesn't dig into the water as much. You could also try a few people on the opposite side instead. It's really a balancing act and every boat and every person likes a different wave. You'll get it dialed in but it can be a little frustrating getting there.

    Great looking boat, BTW!

My life's journey is not ending up looking pretty, its sliding in broadside, used up, worn out, screaming "What a Ride"

Thanks for the info running taps at 4 or 5 and 10.8 MPh but I have change the weight so much just trying to find push the best I had was when I put 750 in each locker and used my homemade surf gate and taps at 8 and 11 mph.
Where can I find a swim deck? I have read rz4 like weight everywhere. But it is just frustrating to make it work.

Make sure when you compare how others are setup to yours that you are comparing a boat that didn't come with factory ballast. I still believe that the weight placement in the factory systems makes the wave form differently than those that came without (like the RZ2 that I had).

My RZ2 works great around when listed with 1000-1100 lbs on the surf side and 400lbs in the bow at 11.2MPH with the taps set to 2-3. Now you have a bigger boat so you most likely would need that much weight or more and I'm sure some RZ4 owners will chime in with there setups.

With a wake shaper (Suck Gate) I run about 600lbs on each side int he back, 400lbs front and taps 2-3 at 11.2mph.

My buddy has a 24' Supra and being a bigger boat 11.2 is too slow. We found that 12MPH seems to work a lot better on his boat.

I can tell you that a wake shaper like the Mission Delta or a DIY Suck Gate will make a world of difference. I've tried my wake shaper on 3 different boats all different sizes from 21-24 feet and it improved the wave all around on each boat. I've found that I can run much lighter and evenly weighted and still get the same wave as I do listed. In fact i think its even better then listed.

All in all it may just be an issue with speed and weight distribution. I did this and if you have the time I highly recommend really getting to know how your boat behaves by moving people around, playing with speed and taps adjustments. Ill give you an example.

When I filled up all of my bags (About 3000lbs) I thought my Speed set was broke. I could not get it to hold speed or even reach the speed I set it to. Never would climb over 10MPH full throttle. Hell I thought everything was broke the way it was behaving. Not being able to gain the speed I wanted I had a 200lb buddy go sit in the bow. To my surprise I almost instantly climbed to 11MPh. I then realized I was just dragging too much weight for the boat. Speed Set wasnt broken I just couldn't go any faster with that much weight. While driving I started draining some water out of my rear sacs. To my surprise I stared increasing speed with almost ever gallon I dropped. Most people probably knew this but I didn't. I just had to learn how my boat behaves with weight and where. Run some scenario tests and I bet you will be surprised what you find out just by messing with the speed, weight, taps and maybe a wake shaper. Good luck.

That's for the knowledge I'm going to try to build something like the delta this weekend and try the 600 in the backs and 400 in the front . What I built before came off swim deck . When you are just running weight no shaper are you putting weight on both sides of bow?

My boat wasn't factory plumbed for a ballast system. I did the rear over the winter and may not even bother with the front. I have bags for both sides however to make things easy I just throw a 400lb bag in the walk way under the center bow cushion.

What weight do you run in the rear and what model boat? Do you use a suckgate?

ordered 2- 250 sacs for bow
Too late to change that order? Id go with a single Fly High W711 IBS. Will net you about 150 lbs more and easier to fill/drain. However, I wouldnt worry too much about bow weight until you get sufficient weight in the back surf side. Between 870 and 750, you should be good to go for now.

Next, id focus on speed, TAPS, board and stance.

Ya already shipped I'll just put more people up there . I have a wide stance , have 2 different boards . I just built a Suck Gate today like the delta going to test it next weekend. I made one that was wood and had to put on swim deck and I helped but I think the angle was off i would like to be able to set the boat up even Bc I'm the only one that rides goofy and want it to be a quick change . Still looking for new swim deck!
