Flo-Rite connectors on XL ballast bags?

My new Z3 has the XL surf bags and the connectors are threaded into the bags, and then they have the screw on pipe clamps to connect the 1 1/8 inch hose to the fitting on the bag. This is a little too permanent for my taste, and I would like to replace all these connectors with flo rite quick connect fittings. I want to be able to get the bags completely and quickly out of the boat to help simplify the winterization process.
I've ran 800 lb bags with the flo rite fittings in my old boat, and didn't run into any problems with them spontaneously uncoupling. Is anyone else running the same sort of fittings with the larger XL or MLA big bags without them leaking or coming apart?

    Kirk.

The fittings are welded in to the sac as its made. There are no threaded ports for the flow rite fittings.

Flo-Rite connectors on XL ballast bags?

1800 lb custom mla sacs, 7 flow rite fitting per bag, no leaks or decoupling.

Edit- missed mla s post but no leaks on mine

No flow rite fittings is a bummer on factory sacs.

Make a short pig tail from the bag. Cut the hose 6-12" from the factory connection and install the flow rite quick connects. I'm sure they make a hose barb with a male and hose barb with a female for in-line connections.

The stock hose and fittings are a booger to remove! A heat gun will be your best friend.

I yanked the bags out today. I was looking for the source of extra water in the bilge after filling the bags. The bilge water was always pink from the RV antifreeze I've been pouring into the bag vents to keep the drain pumps from freezing. I found a source of the leaks, and discovered that the '16 XL bags are all threaded! The hose stubbed out of the stern/starboard locker was about 8 inches from the back locker wall, and it was a straight through fitting, which should have been a right angle for the location of the fitting on the bag. The port side drain hose is only stubbed out about 3 inches, but it's still a straight on fitting, so I'll be replacing that with a right angle quick connect as well. I stole my daughters hair dryer to heat the hoses up and pull them off the fittings.

Working with the dealer on getting a new bag; I'm glad I'm discovering this in February instead of the beginning of summer.

oh that sucks, I was gonna recommend a similar idea to bjm one way or another adapt what you have to a quick connect. cant be that hard, mike will be able to hook you up with what you need.

I got these from MLA and put them in my factory bow sac and also added a few to my custom sac for dual fill and drain

What worries me is a repeat failed fitting if Tige has not made a change. IIRC, that fitting is on the bottom panel of the sac, yet the hose comes through the rear bulkhead of the locker along the floor. I think the hose needs to be adjusted in length, but still, a straight hose barb off the sac to a hose thats running back along the floor vertical is going tot but a great deal of force on that weld.

The drain holes on my XL sacks are on the side panel of the sack. The 8 inches of hose with the straight threaded connector put too much stress on the threaded port.
Some right angle connectors on the drains should take care of the problem.

I'd ask the dealer to refund your money for that bag. Take that money and buy a custom bag from MLA. You will get a larger bag and they style of fittings you want. Two birds with one stone!

Hey Mike, Is the way that fitting is sitting in this picture going to have issues with 6-700 lbs of water sitting on it? I have the 1100lb sacs that you set me up with in my RZ2 and my fittings are directly under the bag. Just worry about the weight on those fittings having the same issue I am seeing in this thread.

                        Thanks, JB

                          JB,

You're still manually filling those sacs, so that bottom fitting is currently occupied by a threaded plug, correct? No worries about the weight of the water on that threaded cap. Once you decide to plumb those sacs in, we design the system to use the port on the lower edge of the back panel, rather then one of those bottom fittings.

I plumbed them in. I can move it to the back edge but all I had was angled fittings and it sat weird on that back edge. May have clamp the hose to the back wall so it stays in place or get some straight fittings and run the hose through the center of the wall.

Looking back through our conversations, I recall we talked about plumbing them in.

This is the way to go. Its how I prefer to set up my plumbing kits as it works best.
