New Tige 24V Owner - Ballast set up for primarily Wakeboarding

    Hello all,

    My first post on here!!!

My brother just bought an 05 24V. I am looking for advice on a great all around ballast set up (not just a surf set up)...

Prior to this I primarily rode behind a SAN210 with only stock ballast.

Now I have done a search and I have found a ton of info on how to load this boat up for surf (Duffy, your set up is amazing!). But I haven't fond very much on wakeboard set up's for this boat.

We will surf with the boat but our primary water sport is wakeboarding. We got a big boat because we usually go out with a large group of people (8+ people and a dog), numerous ice chests, beer, gear, etc. As such, keeping our floor and storage space is also very important. Because of this, I don't think I want to go with the full Enzo sacs in the rear (I would like to keep the under seat space usable).

Please let me know what you guys think of the sacs below?
What weight do you all run for wakeboarding in the 24V?
Would the set up below give me a respectable surf wake?
Does the integrated bow sac fit well under the front seats of the 24V?

Here is my initial thoughts on set up.

    Thanks all!

The 750 is not quite enough for surfing, but too much for boarding IF you only run the W711 IBS. I would suggest the W701 400's or an additional W707 750 for the walkway. For surfing, the W719 is a better option dollar wise, then the W707, but over all, the W712 is the best. The trick is to get the balance between front/rear by not filling the large surf sacs too much when boarding. A 60% front/40% rear seems to be what that boat likes.

Thank you. The 60/40 split is very helpful. I had not come across that advice yet. The boat has the 6.0L 380 HP so I am assuming it can handle whatever weight I can throw at it.

So perhaps 400's in each locker and the bow sac for boarding. Then break out an additional sac or two when surfing. That may be the way to go because the smaller 400's in the locker would also let me keep some storage in the lockers.

I was looking into the W719 but I was afraid they wouldn't fit in the lockers. I am going to measure all of the area's over Thanksgiving.

      Thanks again,
      Kyle

The W719 is the same length as the W707 @ 50's, just a little wider and a little taller. The W719 is a good fit considering its only a little more coat than the W707, but will yield 150 more lbs.

Ok, how good are you at wakeboarding? It's a decent wakeboard wake, but nothing amazing. It's a pretty steep ramp. Half filling my giant sacs or 1/3rd filling my giant sacs never seems to work well, but I have had some luck. If I have a full crew of people on the boat I actually don't fill any rear ballast. Just full nose ballast.

If you really want to surf, don't go enzo sac, they don't fit well in the 24v. I personally tried them and didn't like them. Spend the little bit extra and just copy my sac shape. I think 3 people have gone enzo and then contacted me about copying my sac design. The bow sac works fine in a 24v, but you won't get it very full since under the seats area is pretty small. I run 200# of lead under my bow filler cushion. Plus dual 450s up front. I would guess they only hold 200-250 each when full though, again the area under the bow seats isn't very large.

          Setup:
23.5-24mph. This is key, before that the wake sucks and rolls over. Plus moving people is a must. Move people till the wake is clean.

          Small crew
          Bow- 500
Rears- 300 lead and maybe the sac 1/3 full or 650 in each rear corner. I have zero clue of actual weight in the rear.

          Larger crew
          Bow- 500
Rears empty, 300 in lead evenly placed.

If you really care about wakeboarding, you could run dual seperate sacs in the rear? Meaning one in the locker, and then one under the seats on each side. That way you could fill and drain them independently. You could isolate them with valves. You might be able to get a great wakeboard wake with filling just the sacs under the seats in the rear. Then leave the lockers empty till you want to surf.

Welcome to sight, another Cali Owner here. Since you said you have a big a crew on most trips, I agree with Duffy all bow weight. I have video of Nick Dietrich riding behind mine, from this year's Tige Reunion I will post the video or the link once I finally get off work. I will say that it was no where near what I believe it could be, but it was my first time trying to dial in a "PRO" wake for him and took me a few tries but I think we had a well above average wake.

            8 Adults on board
            600lbs in the bow
            500lbs rear lockers
Speed was dead on 24 MPH
Taps 2-4 in that range, 2 was super clean lip but a soft wake, 4 was basically a concrete quarter pipe.

Again, 1st attempt at dialing it in I can't compete with the Duff

Good Luck, you still out riding in these temps?

Thanks Duffy! I like the idea of multiple sacs in the rear to have more control. We are pretty good at wakeboarding and only getting better. Landed my first tantrum this summer and can now go w2w switch! Thank you for the advise. I didn't even think of putting weight under the bow filler cushion.

Thegerman618 - Thanks for sharing your set up. I would love to the video when you post it. On riding and the temps, we will be in Havasu for Thanksgiving and I think I am going to throw on my wetsuit for a few sets! It is going to be chilly but since the boat is still so new to us I am down right determined to ride! Heres a pic from our last time out.

Nice looking boat, I am working on some editing of the video to get it posted. I will get the link up ASAP, good luck in Hava-brew we did quite a few trip there this year water was still pretty comfy in late October hopefully water is still in the 70's for you.

Thank you Thegerman8618, so far we are super happy with the boat!

How are you getting your 600lbs in the bow? Are you using the integrated bow sac or sacs sitting on the seat?

Duffy - did you go with the v drive sacs in the bow because you can get more weight out of those than the IBS. As you say, the compartments are small.

                  Thank you,
                  Kyle

The bow cavity is going to dictate the ballast weight. ive found that there is little difference in total weight between a pair of 400 lb v-drive sacs and a single W711 IBS. I have also found that there is no advantage to having port side and stbd side bow ballast weight control. 600 under the bow seats seems about right.

I have a 750 that I run in between the bow seats but it won't fill all the way so I call it 600 give or take. I haven't decided if I will run the actual bow sac or not, I didn't have this boat when I bought all my ballast so right now just using what I have 2 Enzo's in the rear lockers, 750 (call it 600) in the bow and I have 3-400,s and 1-1100 for when I have a light crew or we when I really want to surf it (on calm days) I'll fill everything with a good crew my max set up (for surf)
Surf side Enzo-1600lbs give or take, 400 on the seat surf side corner
Bow-600 walkway, and 400 on surf side bow seat.
Rear floor- 1100 jumbo sac on the floor, across rear seats
Opposite surf side-Enzo 1/4 full. or enough to get the rub rail just out of the water.
Total is about 5K with crew, prop cavitates a bit out of the hole with this weight but man the wave is awesome.
People can sit pretty much anywhere with this setup doesn't really matter much. Or wherever there is room to sit LOL.

I like dual bow ballast for the days when I have a smaller crew. I use the V-drive sacs because they have better drains and vents for the space. I really don't think a lot of water fits in them.

I sometimes run opposite weight. Everyone once in a while, the wave is giant and magical. I think it's a mystery.

^^^^^x2 on the magical days sometimes there are days don't know why but the wave is massive and beautiful and I do t have to do anything hardly. Then again I have had a bad wave day or 2 that no matter what seemed to do I could let get it perfect.
