The dealership? No idea what tool? <- I actually know nothing about compression tests, just read some comments on another thread about them. Are those numbers good?

The general rule of thumb is that compression on all cylinders should be within 10% of each other. Since only one cylinder is "out" it could be that the tester wasn't screwed into the spark plug hole properly and experienced some blowby.

Compression meters aren't real expensive, and aren't hard to use. I've compression tested every used boat engine I've purchased and recommend you (or a trusted friend) test this one. It's cheap insurance. Just a thought.

Well now I'm reading on wakeworld that the 2006 version of the throttle by wire system sucked in that boat and many people were not happy with Tige's version of cruise control that year (2006). Have yall heard similar issues?

I personally have no experience on a 2006 Tige, but i have read on here about a lot of problems and concerns with the throttle and cruise control for that year Tige.

fwiw, cousin had an '06 22ve and it sat idle more than it ran from some ecu/throttle issues. don't know the exact issues but iirc, went on for 2 seasons and ended up selling the boat.

It didnt suck.........until the touch pad fails. Last I heard the touch pads had gotten pricey. When working, it worked well. Due to the Marine Power ECM protocol, aftermarket speed control options are limited.

I wouldn't worry about the cruise issue as long as its working when testing i'd go with the boat as those issues are isolated. The dealer may have already replace the touchpad or the boat may never have the issue. If it does the touch pads can range from $600-$900 I've heard but minimal if the rest of the boat is clean. Perhaps that dealer does some sort of warranty like a 30 day or such? Those models are terrific boats.

My buddy has nothing but issues with his 06 speedset. Perfect pass is so much better. If it works well enough for you, then go for it. I would personally stay away from it.

completely irrelevant because PP wont work on the boat in question. If it would, hands down, pull the factory speed control and install PP regardless of the factory speed controls functionality.

Search "speed set" on the forum and you will find what all the buzz is about - the issue is limited to the 2006 model from my understanding. FWIW, I had a 2007 22Ve and had no problem with the paddle wheel and speed set at surf speeds. There was an issue of surging at wakeboard speeds which is remedied by a $200 GPS kit from Nauti-logic.

Thanks, I have been looking for something local. Each dealership I go to says when you buy from them vs. a private owner you go to the front of the line when it comes to service work if you need to take the boat in. I like that, if they are telling the truth. I would hate to buy something from a private owner and then something break and my boat is in the shop 1/2 the summer waiting to be worked on. Have yall had this happen or hear of a situation like that? What are the benefits of purchasing from a private owner vs. a dealership?

The one time I've had to put my boat in the shop (it was a warranty thing, otherwise I do most of my own maintenance) it was a FORMER Tige dealer and I bought my boat from out-of-state so definitely no "good customer" advantage. Nevertheless, my boat got worked on immediately and was back to me very fast. I've heard that preference rumor before, but in the end 1) money is money, and 2) once your boat is opened up it seems unlikely they're going to pull it back out of the shop in pieces just to put someone else's in. Easier to just finish yours and collect your payment.
