We cobbled together a gate-style delayed convergency thingy last year for our '02 xstar (sold) that cost $2 and looked like this

and it took our wake from this

    to this

Needless to say we were pretty happy and I am looking forward to what comes of this thread. Definitely interested.

I have been rocking a full list custom ballast setup with a cobbled together surfgate on, and the wave has looked quite good. I think the device does clean it up ever so slightly.

I learned what I need to know today. Unfortunately I didn't leave the plate on the boat. There are a few places that need a little shaving on the mill to get the fit just right but it looks like it will work. Can't wait to give it a try but it may take a few weeks as the only lake warm enough here isn't really deep enough to give it a real evaluation. I can make some more parts and after I get it tested we can talk.

The notch at the bottom isn't needed obviously but I was wondering about support for an NSS style plate. The backing plate is already drilled for a vertical flap. I'm also wondering about clearance for the swim deck now that I look at it. One more thing to check out.

Final install with 3M 5200. I don't know if I will ever get my hands clean of that stuff. Very tenacious. Swim deck clearance looks good.

Impressed! If it works, I would like to be first in line 5200 is amazing and nasty stuff!

Wind and rain today and forecast for the entire weekend!

Now that it is on the boat I can't use it. I've still got to do a shake-down run before the Powell trip starts next Thursday so hopefully this thing will work. I've also got to get another ballast bag in play so I can get some big even weighting in the back of the boat. Currently I only have a small v-drive sac and the Enzo sac that we used in the port side for surfing. It wasn't a great wave.

What is anyone's best guess on the best weighting for this type of setup?

I was thinking of picking up a standard 1100# sac to balance out the Enzo in the rear but then I need to consider something the front of the boat.

I've also lost my TAPS gauge! The switch/actuator is still working but nothing moves on the dash. If anyone reading knows how to fix pls. point me in the right direction. Its a 2004 so it is a full electric system.

I am following the outcome of this too, curious how it will work. I have seen first hand how this type of thing can turn a very anemic surf wake to something that worked really well. I have also been waiting for some reviews on the new Go Surf Assist being put out by Wake Makers called Wave Control.

                        http://www.wakemakers.com/wavecontrol

Has anyone seen Wave Control in action? Anyone have any thoughts on its design and approach? Personally, I think being able to automatically switch side to side would add a bunch of fun to the sport especially since I surf both regular and goofy. Hopefully by seasons end enough people will have bit on the Wave Control to give it a good test and reviews.

Dreddy, really nice job on the machining and install. If it works well I, too, will be seriously interested in trying to follow in your footsteps.

If you check out the MB forum there's lots of guys over there who have the Go Surf Assist installed on their boats. Lots of discussion and pictures. Obviously not the same hull but will give you an idea of performance etc.

I have read some of the MB reviews, hoping to find someone with a tige hull who has used it. Or someone with enough knowledge about this stuff to opine on the product.

My boat has very little room between the swim deck bracket and the hull. I tried to install my own wave plates a while ago and gave up.

I could see room on the transom on a tige hull being a challenge.
