    Surfing behind a 20i?b

    Hi all,

I've been searching around a bit and read that you can get a decent surf wake out of a 20i but wondering if anyone can tell me the set-up they used?

Can anyone tell me how much ballast they added? The back locker looks like it could take an 800 lbs bag no problem but it would be even across he back not to one side?

Also with a direct drive and the weight of the motor towards the centre of the boat do you bother with ballast in the bow?

I know I'm not going to get a huge wake but I just want to get the best one I can with my boat. Skiing is my primary objective, and this boat is great for skiing. But this summer we have started surfing more and it's a great second activity for us

    Thanks
    Dave

I would throw the biggest sac you can in the back locker. Then add a 750 pound on the surf side of the engine. Then for boarding, throw the 750 in the bow. It's basically, trial and error. I would first fill up bags them place people to find the sweet spot.

      Thanks

I'm going to buy some bags and try things out.

I would contact Chpthril on here (Mike's Liquid Audio) and see about having a custom sac made for the trunk. It's a simple rectangle shaped sac and wouldn't be very much more than an off the shelf sac and would give you max weight back there. Then get something for next to the motor.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I had a 01 20i and tried a few years ago with probably 3 large guys in the back of it to surf behind it. I'd guess around 650lb worth ppl and was unable to go wireless. the wake is good enough behind one for wakeboarding but would be hard to get a good surf wake short of sinking the rear on it!! This being the reason i upgraded to the 22ve which still has a good slalom wake and an excellent surf wake. plus no babysitting the front end!!
