    Ballasting the R20

I have been working with my R20 trying to Dial the wake under multiple situations, and here is what I have found. If anyone has experimented with this feel free to add in.

The speed on all the setups was at 10.6 mph.

Set up 1- only a Driver and a Surfer.

    Taps set at 4
    Fill Bow completely
Factory PORT AFT plus an additional 400lb. fly high tapped into the system from wakemakers.com (42"X16"X16") completely full.
    Leave Starbord Aft empty.

The wake is smooth, long, and easy to ride. Not quite as steep as option 2, great for learning to carve without such a steep re-entry.

    Option 2 4-5 adults

    Taps at 3
    Fill BOW
Factory PORT AFT plus an additional 400lb. fly high tapped into the system from wakemakers.com (42"X16"X16") completely full.
    Fill Starbord AFT about 50%

two adults sitting in boat at port/aft position, one on the back of the boat, either recording on the swim deck, or on the mat.

This wave is WAY steeper. It will really push fast and coming off and ollie drop you down the face with some speed.

    Option 3

    5-6 adults,

When you have more weight, the problem seems to be keeping the front end down, so we ran the same setup above, put one extra adult on the port aft seating, and one up front on port side. The bow was rising quite high, so the TAPS was put down to 2, and that dropped it down and really cleaned it up a lot. Very tall, fast wave.

One thing I noticed fully ballasted on this rig, the trough is really U-shapped, so when you dip down into it for speed and start an initial carve out, if you are not careful you will swamp the nose really easy. I don't know that there is any thing I can do about this though. The bigger the wave, the more it will happen, so you just have to be very aware keeping the nose up when you come whipping in hard. (or it could be copious amounts of poor technique)

The 20' Tiges will put out a most impressive and surfable wave. We are very impressed by our RZR. We can have either a very nice smooth wave for skim style surfing or we can jack the wave up and get a great surf style wave pumping. Both with impressive length in the pocket. Now take it to the next level and put a Convex VX on that thing. You might lose an inch or two on your wave height but the length of your pocket with get even better. Ours is getting installed next week! We will put up before and after photos.

nice, thanks for writing this up. We just got our R20 and are in the process of dialing the wave in and this is a huge help. We do have the VX and with just me and my wife the factory ballast 100% surf side does not produce enough list for a smooth wave. Even 1 additional person on the surf side is still hard to get that 9-10 degree list for a clean wake. This confirms we need to add 350-400 extra pounds at least on the surf side for a good time, too bad we haven't budgeted for this!

We have the 1600 lbs surf ballast (250x2 hard tanks, 200x2 front bags, 350x2 rear bags). Not quite enough with just a driver or spotter with the VX, it seems.

supreme, do you have any videos or photos you can share of your wave?

Here is a video of our RZR with factory Surf Ballast just as you and Driver and two kids under 10yr old on Surf side. We have the Front 100%, surf side 100% and opposite surf side 25%. We do have several Fly High sacs from our last boat that we can and will try. A 750lb vdrive bag and a 400lb long bag for under seats.

Last night I went out and accidently had a pretty sweet wave to ride.

              Here was the setup.

Aft Port- 450 lb. factory ballast plus 400 lb. additional bag, and an additional 150 lbs. under the side seat.

the only other weight in the boat was one adult on the rear deck, aft port, and my 4 kids- ages 6, 7, 9, and 11 on the port seats. Keep in mind 3 are girls, and that was probably a total of 250 lbs.

Plus the Driver, who once under weigh, would shift his weight to the port side.

Speed was 10.6 and Tapos was 4.

We thought we had the front full, but accidently forgot ot fill them, and the wave was pretty sick.

It was high, powerful, and not so steep to make re-entry sketchy. whipping around 360 and staying in position was easier than ever, ollies were pretty easy, and I could pop up on top of the whitewash with enough speed to ride it a bit and then re-enter easy. A few times I drifted too far back after tricks, too far back to normally save, and 2 out of 3 times, I pumped back up into the wave. I was so far back my back knee was getting washed over, and I brought it back.

Check it out and see what you think. You will have to find your own kids though.....
