    Rzr ballast

Hi, I was looking for opinions and thoughts on upgrading a 2012 rzr.it currently has the surf package with the single four hundred lb. sac in the bow. I was thinking of switching the rear bags out to 1000lbs on each side. And possibly going to two 400 lb sacs in the front. I am also wanting to switch out the ballast pumps to something fast to accomodate the bigger sacs. Just looking for some opinions on this setup or if any one else has a good setup for the rzr ballast. Thanks for the help.

Chpthril is the guy to talk to. He can give you all the advice you need and sell you the parts. Hang tight and I'm sure he'll answer all your questions soon enough.

chp sold me the parts to convert my 22ve to dual fill pumps and an oversize sack. was a complete kit and easy to install.

pick it up from him and you'll be set.

CHP is your guy for sure. But I can tell you as a RZR owner I think your going to run out of room.

That 400 in the bow pretty much fills that area. Fill it up and take a look. With 2 400's up there, they won't fill anywhere close to all the way. But you might get a little more. Maybe 100-150lbs more. Get some lead versus wasting money on sacs you can't fill.

Your going to run into the same with the 1000's in the back, they won't fill anywhere close to all the way. I know guys can't totally fill 750's in VLX's which have a larger compartment. You could look at going to the sacs with a leg that run under the seating to add extra weight. But at that point your only storage is under the observer seat.

If you did it all you'd be looking at over 3300 in a RZR which most would say is too much. You'd have 1500 in back and only 800 in the front which would be way out of balance. RZR like front weight and a pretty close 1:1 ration most would say.

Unless its for surfing, you really don't need any more weight in the back.

I have a pair of Fly High W705 sacs that I'm installing in the bow soon to replace the 400lb U shaped sac. The W705's will hold 580lbs when full but I don't think I'll quite get there, mainly because of my sub enclosure on the starboard side. What I love about these bags is that they are only 10" tall but are 26" wide. When the stock bag is full there's a ton of wasted space along the sides of the hull because the stock bag is not very wide.

Currently I have a little over 600lbs of lead in the bow area and I still can't quite use all of the rear ballast for wakeboarding with just 1 adult and 2 kids in the boat.

What's your application? That much weight is excessive for wake boarding, I'd be nervous it'd start to crumble, and you would need a fliy high bag in the bow to help out...

Scott and I have exchanged a number of PM's. We have kicked around some ideas and believe we have a plan for him.

Thanks for contacting me Scott, I appreciate the opportunity to work with you.

I'd be curious to know what you guys come up with. Since I will be adding to my factory basic 900 in the spring. I will be hitting up CHP for parts in March.

I have talked to chp a few times and have to say that he is very helpful and really good service with answering questions and figuring out different options. Looking forward to getting my ballast upgrades from him. For those that are wondering I think I am going to go with the thousand pound sacs with the arms that extend forward under the seats. This should also help shift some weight to the middle of the boat. We are also going to add an extra fill pump to each side and a transfer pump to speed up filling the sacs. For the front I think I am just going to stay with the stock 400lb. I have a couple 400lb fly high sacs I can throw on top of the front seats if needed. I will try this setup and see how it works, not to worried about losing the storage space under the seats or having bags on the front as we have our own dock and boat lift so its easy to swap people out if needed but im sure we can all fit. What are your guys' opinions on this setup? It should be about 1250lbs in the rear and 800 to 1200 in the front while surfing.

I would love to see the pics...with my experience and R&D work for the brand I have found that you can over weight the 20 footers and wash it all out....to much in the back sinks the platform to deep and the under lip of the platform carves up the face of the wake...now you can up grate and put a Z3 platform on like I did but really 2 well placed 180 sacks + the surf system and you should be just fine...look up my R20 videos or pics...

If you think over weighting is not real...Robert did it with the 5K slam on the mother ship Z3...and that after the adding 2 more feet of the VX mod.

                          Just something to ponder...or not...

Go with what Allan says, his boat is weighted perfectly and you probably won't get a better wave than what he has. He has a lot of hours of R&D in it and talking with ragboy too.

I agree that a boat can be over weighted. We saw this with both the surf and wake-board wakes on the prototype Z3 we demo'd back in Sept 2011. The best wake-board wake we got was actually with no ballast tanks filled at all.

The advantage of having a large "L" shaped sac and pumps with an ON/OFF switch, is that you can fill them to capacity or just to amount needed to get the best, cleanest wake depending on the size of the crew for that day. As we all know, this is the one huge variable. Some days it may just be you and the wife, others, if my be you and all your fat drinking buds So the amount of ballast needed on one day, will be different on the next trip out. A sac with a high capacity also means no sacs in the seats or floor.
