    Adding RZR ballast

Just bought a 2013 RZR and it just came with the basic 900 lb ballast. I want to add more mostly for surfing. I want it plumbed in and don't want to pay the $1000 for just the rear 350's from the dealer. I am not a pro rider and the 900 stock is more than enough for me when wake boarding for now anyway.

Can someone describe the plumbing to me who has the surf ballast from Tige?

Here is what I want to do. Add somewhere between 350's and 500's to the rear. My thought it to put a Y at the 2 rear fill pumps with a valve so I can shut off the bags. T into the vent line. Then add a separate drain pump and add another thru hull along with the 2 that are at the back below the rub rail(one on each side) for draining the sacs

Is there a way to avoid another hole in the boat? How does the factory surf bag drain? How can you tell when the tank is full since they now share a vent/overflow line? The bag you can obviously look at. I remember someone telling me something about pumping the bag into the tank to be drained?? Seems silly to pump the water twice.

PM Chpthril. He can set you up with what you need and is a great guy to work with. My go as big as you can now so you don't have to change again in a couple of months.

      Boardman,

I like the direction you are looking at with a diverter valve off the fill pump and a dedicated drain pump. Doing a piggy-back will work, but they tend to get complicated and their function is not always the best. Just to toss this out there.......have you considered diving the new pumps their own dedicated fill pump? It would not be too much more work above what you are already doing and would greatly reduce the time to fill for surfing. With a single fill pump and diverter, you have to wait til the hard tank is full, open the access hatch, rotate the diverter, and then wait for surf sac to fill. With dedicated pumps, you can fill the tank for boarding and run both pumps together for surfing.

Bags: Here are a few options to think about. 1) we have a custom surf sac for the Tige boats that will add about 1200 Lbs on top of the factory hard tank. Its an "L" shaped sac, so it will consume the under seat storage when filled. 2) We have what I call out Custom Cube. Its basically the main section of the main section with no leg. It will add just inside of 600 lbs. on top of the hard tank. You could also go with either the Fly High W707 Original Fat Sac (rated at 750, but would probably net about 650+) or the W719 Jumbo Surf (rated at 1100, but would probably net about 800). These are standard sacs and come with 3 ports. Both are 50" in length, so I think is going to prevent both of them from filling completely in the RZR locker. The W719 would be the better LB to $$ value out of those two.

The Tige Surf/Pro sac plumbing is kinda different than any other manufacturers Piggy-Back/Plug-n-Play sacs. The fill line is T'd off and goes to the hard tank and the top of the surf sac. The surf sac has 2 ports on the outer edge of the bottom panel. When the sac if in the stowed position, most of the water will go to the tank. When the sac is deployed, water will fill both the tank and sac (from the top) and when the tank if full, water will fill the sac from the two bottom ports. Draining of the sac is done through the bottom two ports via gravity back into the tank. The drain pump pull directly from the tank. The tank and sac vents are T'd and share a thru-hull.

Since Tige uses a dedicated vent thru-hull and dedicated drain thru-hull, you could combine them, and then use the the now vacant thru-hull for the added sac to vent and drain through. I would probably recommend just leaving this part of the factory plumbing as is, and install a new t-hull for the new sac. I would also recommend crossing the vents and drain if you go with a tall sac like a custom or Jumbo surf. Once fill, these sacs are higher then the thru-hulls, and they can passively drain a little. You may also experience soem passive draining through the fill line if you add a sac to the existing fill plumbing. In some cases, you can reroute the hose and cure this, in others, we need to install a check-valve after the fill pump.

hope this help and please let me know if you have any other questions.

I am thinking I will probably go with the W701(400 lb set). The a W705 (650) for the front incase I want to get crazy and wakeboard with all the weight. Front would just lay on the seats in the bow and not be plumbed in. Plus I can put it on the seats on the surf side if we really want to dial it up.

But for now I'm focusing on the installed sacs. Based on what you said I am going to have them install the extra 2 thru hulls, one on each rear side by the factory ones. Can I run the vent and the drain line both to the new thru hull? If I do a separate pump like you suggested do I just put a T in the seacock after it comes thru the hull, then screw a pump to each side? Will one intake support 2 800 gpm pumps at the same time? I have the Tige touch so wouldn't be able to integrate it so where would you suggest putting the switches? Don't want it to look out of place since there are no switches now.

Lastly can I find most of the parts I need at Home depot? As in the T's and Y's? I will buy the fittings and hose with the sacs.

Yes, you can T the vent and drain together. We commonly do this on our installs.

Check this thread: http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18890 SandM is adding a dedicated fill pump for his custom sac.

The best method is to stagger the new fill pumps. T the new port side sac fill pump up with the starboard hard tank full pump, etc. This way, you only have one pump feeding off a thru-hull when filling a side for surfing, but two pumps are running.

You can trigger the new drain pump to run along with the factory drain pump, but in order to have the fill pumps run interdependently of each other, you would need a dedicated switch for the new fill pump(s). To my knowledge, there are no unused TT output options in the ballast menu, so it would have to be an external manual toggle. im sure you could find an inconspicuous place to locate a toggle.

Does your 2013 have hard tanks in the front too? I thought I saw somewhere that Tige was switching to hard tanks in the bow.

You know I am not totally sure. The first time I looked the dealer told me they had switched to hard tanks. Then the last time we were there he didn't seem so sure. I thought I had heard they were going to just one hard tank in the front, but I still have 2 fills and 2 drains. I know where the 2012 was open and you could see the bags, the 2013 has a cover just like the ones in the back over the battery area. So it's totally sealed off from the compartment so you can't see whether it's bags or hard tank(s). 2 hard tanks would waste alot of space and wouldn't seem to make sense. I'm guessing still bags. Does anyone know for sure, otherwise I will be over there Friday or next week and I will check for sure.

Yes. Fly High, who makes the custom sac for WM, has been making custom Tige sacs for me for about 3 years. I have shipped to a few AUS. Tige owners.

My sacs are a direct plug-n-play swap for the factory 350 lb stock surf sac. They have extra threaded ports so you can add extra fill and drain pumps or a transfer pump. These can also be fitted with the needed fitting to mate with the Fly High W709 pump kit or plumbed in on those boats that did not come with the Tige Surf or Pro level ballast option. They hold between 1000 lbs - 1200 lbs depending on the model boat and which side the sac goes in.
