    Z1 Needs weight

Boat came with no ballast from factory. Currently I have 2 - 400# fat sacks. Any suggestions to what route I should look at doing to increase ballast at this point?

I don't know how the Z1 like weight but on our 21V, I run 500 in each rear compartment and a 750 in the bow. Your 400's would be fine in the rear with a 750 in the bow.

Our wake is pretty beefy but with the older 21V, any more weight then that, the wake gets washed out because of the chines but you don't have to worry about that.

BLK - What do you want to do?
As you know different weighting strategies will be required for surfing vs. wakeboarding. So let everyone know what you want to do and the Z1 experts will set you striaght.

        my opinion

we run several z1s on our lake and we have found putting the 400 in the front in each side and 600 in the rear on each side works awesome

I've been running 650 in the surf side back compartment and the off side empty, and I run 400 in the front plus peeps on the surf side or bow. With that set up it will throw a respectable and very surfable wave for a 21' boat. I just got a 1200# enzo sac this winter from chpthrill and its on the port side. If it works out I will get one for the starboard side next season. Z1's like weight up front, my bow sac gets full at the dock and stays full till we load it back up. I have a loose 400# sac I might throw up front or close to the front this year to see how it likes that. So that said use your 400's in the rear lockers and get some weight up in the bow just like kx250 said

The main thing now is just get out there and enjoy it

lwndr, what speed & taps do you surf at? I assume you have the factory 900 lbs ballast? We usually go around 10.5-11 and taps 5-7 depending on how many people are with us. I am working on setting up a surf wake, some days it is great, some days it sucks, just can't seem to get it right yet?

I have the factory 900 lbs. I, as well, fill up front 400 when we leave the trailer and leave it full the rest of the day. Then fill and empty the rear 250lb for each surf side-surf wake is OK, but when I have four or more people int here, it really helps.

then fill and/or empty both rear for wakeboarding depending on wakeboarder preference.

I thought about adding the enzo sac, but had some reserveations. I was thinking I may want to run an external pump instead of plumbing it into my exisitng plumbing so it will fill faster. How did you do it? I bet the enzo sac throws a ridiculous wake at 1250 lbs.

So, to help OP, I think 400 up front and more than 250 in the rear for surfing is needed, just not sure how much yet.

I now run 400 up front, 250 hard tank, 1100 surf sac, 10.8-11, taps, 3-4, one peep in observer seat, all in all a very good wave. Only thing I struggle with is the prop wash. Some days it is good some days not so good.

Finally got my surf wake dialed in this week. My Z1 has no factory ballast. I went with 2 300# sacs in the rear, one 300# sac under the observer seat (filled enuf to still allow the seat to be put back), a 300# sac in the walkthru (all the way forward) and a 300# sac on the port bow seat. TAPS at 5.5-6 seemed to clean up the propwash, speed at 10.8. Great wake with little to no people in the boat. Better with more 'ballast buddies'.

                            Update on ballast install

image.jpgFinally got around to ordering my ballast, started the install yesterday. Got entire set up thru mike. I must tell you cutting holes in my boat gave me a sick feeling to my stomach, but every hole has been perfect. System will consist of w711 for bow, 2w705 for each side rear, and three ballast puppy pumps. Filling and emptying thru bottom of hull with mushroom fitting.
