    R20/RZR BALLAST FOR WAKESURFING

    Hi Forum,

    Anybody dialed in their R20/RZR.
Found goofy wave easier to get nice & clean, struggled on natural.
    Very short pocket.
    Any tips would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ross

    Goofy? Natural? No comprende.

Sounds like you need some more weight in the front. If you list your current setup, you might get better feedback.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

      Thanks for the reply Nicky.
      Goofy(surfing term) = starboard = darkside
      Natural = port
      Current set up
Custom sack 1200lbs full (not sure actual weight & played with nothing to full in front.
Taps anything from 0 to 4
      Speed: played betwean 11 & 13Mph
I had the 22V before & had a pretty good wave, so far R20 not even close to good.
      Thanks
      Ross

I run similar weight, surf ballast and a 450 under the port bench and have no problem getting a good wave. I usually run 10.6-10.8 with the taps 0-4. Maybe try to Knock a little speed off?

There's nothing like a good chuckle first thing morning. Thanks. In all my years of making that comment, I think you're the first to actually explain it.

I'm well versed in the terms and while I have heard of regular being referenced to as natural, I'd say 99.9% of surfers/skaters/snowboarders/wakeboarders/wakesurfers just say regular. That brings me to my next point, Wakeism.

Wakeism- 1) A phenomenon generated by lazy wakesurfers who refuse to learn or recognize the correct nautical terms for each side of a boat. In place of the correct terms, either port or starboard, they insist on using the terms regular or goofy.

You see, those terms, regular or goofy, might be applicable if wakesurfers only rode frontside. That ain't the case. I ride backside all the time. Do you ever hear of surf break reffered to as a regular break or a goofy break? Obviously not. That would be ridiculous. It's either a left or a right. Since we are behind a boat, we(mostly me) use the correct term of either port or starboard. Your stance has nothing to do with the wave. How you ride it is your problem. Regular and goofy terms have only to do with which foot forward a rider prefers. End of story.

It's not you, its what the lazy have adopted and now its commonplace, all because some "cool kids" couldn't remember which side was port and which side is starboard. I think that is .

          Stepping off my soapbox now.

No. Wait. Back on soapbox. If you're going to surf, get an FAE. Most of us have them because well, they kickazz. If you value your or your family's or your friends' braincells at all, you'll get one.

Rant over. Welcome to the site. We need some pics of your new wake machine. Congrats on that by the way.

Thanks Nicky, point taken, you are 100% correct!!
I have a FAE, had one on the 22v, according to Larry mine was the first & (only?) in South Africa.
I had the 22v dialed in pretty well.
I guess I need to play with speed. (JReis I'll try slowing down a tad & see result)
Been following this forum for quite a while & got most of my info for my 22V from here.

So any further tips will be appreciated.

              Thanks.

Haha! I must be getting better at presenting my argument. Either that or I'm just presenting it to reasonable human beings. You're like the third in a row! Now if I can just get Surfdad to adopt it, I'll have accomplished...what? Logic?

Another SA Tigeowner huh? Awesome. The first SA FAEowner no less.

Mike, thanks, all good, was really pleasant doing business with you.
I'm having a bit of a problem in that while I'm riding the top part of the sack is emptying. Does the plug n play/pump not have some sort of non return feature on it?
That is obviously also a problem in dialing in my wave.
Wakeman22, Cape Town, where you heading?
The passion, comraderie & helpfulness on this forum is really something.
                      Thanks

                        Ross,

This is sometimes an unwanted side effect of the very tall sacs. In most cases, the passive draining is traced down to the vent line. Two things that can be done: Splice in a check-valve on the vent line between the sac and the thru-hull. Using a check-valve with a light spring load to it, prevent the water from passing once the fill pump is cycled off.

The next option is to extend the vent lines and cross them over to the opposite side of the boat. The port vent hose will be routed over to the starboard side vent's thru-hull. And the starboard side vent line will then be routed over to the port side vent's thru-hull. Just let me know if I can help.

I will be flying into Cape town. Going to Tarkastad and Port Aurthor and a few other areas. Safari. May have some play time too. Are you boating in fresh water or costal?
