I wouldn't worry too much about rot on a vertical piece of resin encapsulated wood covered with marine grade carpet. The marine grade carpet will not absorb/hold water and the resin will protect the wood when it is wet. if the bottom edge rests on the floor, use a piece of UHMP as a riser to elevate it.

I first saw Starboard some three years ago. I thought then and still do think its bitchin stuff. The price is absolutely off the deep end though. I just can't justify spending 4-5 times as much for the same amount of material. Had I just been making a couple small partitions, maybe. This project requires a bit more than that though.
I'm not worried about using wood in a boat. Wood has been the primary boat building material for centuries. Properly done, its just as good as anything. It will be fine.
The thing I really don't like about carpet is the water that gets trapped underneath it. I an area such as this, with all the different parts and pieces, it just doesn't make sense to bother with it. I would end up having to seal up every little piece before its gets carpet anyways so why not just skip the labor and material cost of the carpet and glue and just do a coating that finishes up nice? You'll get your chance, smart guy.

After a long week, I finally got to work on the boat yesterday. Got the Port side transom cover fabbed up. I'm hoping to get some more done today but, not sure if that'll happen or not.Last edited by NICKYPOO; 02-20-2012, 04:12 PM.You'll get your chance, smart guy.

New deck fill is in. I think its gonna work. I knew it was gonna be close so I was relieved when slid the tank up to it.
I fabbed up a support for the tank floor. It will hang from the center platform bracket bolts and support the new section of floor. I don't think I actually need it as I can stand on the new floor section without it even being screwed down and it doesn't move in the lightest but, why stop over building it now? It was a piece I knew I could easily make and it would make the whole section more or less bulletproof. You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Thankyou sir.
I really like the hinges. They have a little gas spring in them that holds them open so besides the latch, that is it for hardware hanging in the box. No big ol gas spring and the ball tips you normally see on the under side of hatches. They also allow for a 3/4" overlay which is going to be key on the center hatch. You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I hate piano hinge. I've worked with it many times and no matter how you look at it, its archaic in design. In this day and age, there are so many brilliant hinge designs that using piano hinge is just lazy. Your basically just saying, "Eh, this'll do."
So ya, these lids will be upholstered. It's been a while since I've done upholstery but, I might just give it a go. I also just might have them done. The rear bench seat neads to be redone and I'm not tackling that so, I might puss out on 'em.You'll get your chance, smart guy.
