I have a 98 pre 2002. what i do when i wanna get a good surf wake or a bigger wake period, i take my back seat cushion out and the back rest. Then i have two fat sacks that i put on the sides that have built in seats on top of them and a center fat sack i put between them. its a total of about 1200 lbs....gets the job done for me!!

I'm just getting ready to install a system in mine. Now, I've been surfing my 22i for 7 or 8 years now and I have always found it to be a very easy boat to surf without having to go crazy with ballast. It also helps to have a fast board. For the last 5 years, I've run a single locker sac in the trunk and a half-full locker sac under the back seat. I've managed to train the crew to switch sides whenever we want to surf the opposite side currently being surfed with a simple command, "VAB to port" or "VAB to starboard". VAB stands for Verbally Activated Ballast, your crew. They know that the fattest one goes in the corner the next fattest stacks in and so on. Truly a wonderful thing to be in the middle of a ride and be able to switch sides on the fly. Even though my water ballast is loaded on both sides, a couple good VABs are enough to get the rubrail down to the water and as a general rule of thumb in any boat it seems, if you can get the rubrail in the water, yer gonna have a good wake. Check page 2 of the July picture thread for my most recent rubrail pics.
The problem with this set up, besides not being automated, is that it goes against the general principle of only weighting the surf side. I've got 800#s of water back there but if I can just have 400#s on the surf side it should yield a better wake. I'll be the first to praise the old 22i's wake shape as one of the finest in the land but, it could always be bigger.
My goal with the new set up is to have 400+ pounds on each side, completely independent of each other and have all of it "below decks" and automated. Pretty mild but, I'm still planning a couple of minor details that should yield closer to 500#s each side. I'll only be into it about $1500 so still, not crazy. You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Hi NavyTige,
Here are a couple of links about installing and setting up ballast for you type boat. If you need technical info Chptril is a great contact on this for installs and parts needed.
This 1st link has another link to "JLoflin's boat" thread. I ride w/ JLoflin on the wkends and his setup works great. I made a drawing of this setup for both Standard and Goofy riding in excel. It is not done yet, still trying to figure out all the parts I need. Hope this gets you started.
If we get out on the lake this wkend I will get some pictures of our setup and wake.
